Jerry Falwell's Death - BAD for us
I seriously hope none of you are praying for Falwell's Death. Why?

Because:

1. The Undead never die

2. If Falwell dies, watch the 'christian' Right become more popular than sliced bread

Falwell is evil, but his death would be bad for us and even worse for America.

How would it be bad for us?

Believe it or not, Falwell is fairly unpopular, and his power is a small fraction of what it was 20 years ago. He's largely seen as a has-been buffoon. His death will be a fart in a windstorm.

After musicians die, their stuff gets sold, sometimes their sales skyrocket.

After Reagan died... Let's just say I'm still seeing shirts that say "Viva la Reagan Revolution"

We've all seen it, haven't we?

24. Actually,
this type of evangelist is usually forgotten pretty quickly as new ones rise up to see how much money they can make off the true believers.

6. He's going to die sooner or later...just like everyone else.
And its not like anything we say on hear has any effect on wether Falwell dies. I say he does more damage alive than dead. But saying that won't cause him to flop off the face of the earth. We have no control over this. Also, how does his death make the christian right more popular? Most American's probably have no idea who he is.

Right, most Americans can be pretty ignorant. At least 51%

7. It does not matter what we wish for. Our wishing it cannot really make
it happen. We will have to deal with whatever the outcome is for him, as will he.

Many have tried, none have suceeded. Although in addition to eating rye, I understand H. Bosch was also an alchemist.

Have you discovered the elixer of life?

I indicated wondering if he and one or two more of his ilk were the embodiment of the anti-Christ based on their works on this earth.

17. Maybe I should have put a disclaimer in my original post
A. I'm just posting my opinion, I believe the 'christian' Right would become more popular if something happened. I'm not 100% sure anything would happen.

B. Some poster had said that I had Conservative links in one of my groups. Those are Yahoo Sponsors, believe me, I was appalled when I had learned that this was happening.

C. I don't care about Jerry Falwell, as I said, I am just posting an opinion.

21. I can see it being bad if he comes back as a zombie.
I guess he'd be a kind of fundamentalist zombie, a little like the titular character in the movie 'Uncle Sam,' which all of you should see if you haven't already.

23. I don't get that
 People die everyday and Falwell is a mean mean man. Right now Christianity (the rightwing version) is really popular. That's all. As all things popular this too shall pass (like with the boybands in the 90's).

26. If Falwell dies will be replaced by weirder, creepier next generation
Edited on Tue Mar-29-05 08:51 PM by yurbud
Two names come to mind:

Gary Bauer and Ralph Reed.

Both are self-hating crypto gays like the Bushies.

Bauer is a very unsettling person to look at and Reed looks just like Dave Foley from Kids in the Hall--it's hard to take him seriously.

Falwell seemed like an uncle or neighbor you don't like.

When I see guys like Bauer and Reed, I wonder if we belong to the same species.

The emerging voice is Dobson. He lacks the trashy televangelist car-wreck charisma of somebody like Falwell. He is just a dull scold who isn't half as bright or powerful as he thinks.

28. oh please
Everybody dies. Jerry Falwell is not God. His passing will be little noted or long remembered by anyone. His entire existence consists of stirring up hate and hysteria, as he did on September 11. Oh, a few crocodile tears will be shed, but the dirty truth is that he won't be missed or remembered, and America will be better and stronger for the loss.

The conservation movement is a breeding ground of communists
and other subversives. We intend to clean them out,
even if it means rounding up every birdwatcher in the country.
