Schindlers Sell Supporters Email's to Conservative Mailing Firm

Pardon if this is a dupe. From the NYT:

WASHINGTON, March 28 - The parents of Terri Schiavo have authorized a conservative direct-mailing firm to sell a list of their financial supporters, making it likely that thousands of strangers moved by her plight will receive a steady stream of solicitations from anti-abortion and conservative groups.

"These compassionate pro-lifers donated toward Bob Schindler's legal battle to keep Terri's estranged husband from removing the feeding tube from Terri," says a description of the list on the Web site of the firm, Response Unlimited, which is asking $150 a month for 6,000 names and $500 a month for 4,000 e-mail addresses of people who responded last month to an e-mail plea from Ms. Schiavo's father. "These individuals are passionate about the way they value human life, adamantly oppose euthanasia and are pro-life in every sense of the word!"

Executives of Response Unlimited declined to comment. Gary McCullough, director of the Christian Communication Network and a spokesman for Ms. Schiavo's parents, confirmed that Mr. Schindler had agreed to let Response Unlimited rent out the list as part of a deal for the firm to send an e-mail solicitation raising money on the family's behalf.

Mr. Sheldon - whose father, the Rev. Lou Sheldon, founder of the Traditional Values Coalition, has also sent appeals urging support for Ms. Schiavo - apparently played a dual role as a partner in RightMarch.com, which is working with the anti-abortion activist Randall Terry, and as a broker for Response Unlimited. Mr. Sheldon did not respond to phone calls yesterday.

...I understood that a parent would fight for their child. I could understand grief and desperation.

However, the way in which these creeps are acting cannot be excused by grief.

These people are charlatans.

They're selling tapes of their brain damaged child. They're selling mailing lists for profit. Their child is on the verge of death and they're busy bees--wheeling and dealing from the picket lines.

What a bunch of fake, punks.

I have more respect for Terri that these two creeps.

They should both crawl into a hole and die of shame for the way they have exploited their daughter through the sale of those videotapes, "Look at us over here! We're the grieving parents! Watch us marketize our daughter's vegetative state and profit off the sale of videotapes that showcase how our daughter acts with a liquefied cerebral cortex! That'll be $29.99 please!"

As Mrs. Schaivo's death draws near, I find that feelings of sadness rooted in my own experiences have been triggered.

They're not monsters. They are going to feel immense pain.

Mr. Schindler may be monumentally fucked-up, but this is how I personally feel about it right now.

As for Mrs. Schindler, from her body language, it appears to me that her husband rules the house with a biblically heavy hand. I don't fully believe she would "sell her child on her deathbed."

Families do royally fucked-up shit around dramas such as this one. They happen every day. It was the monsters such as Delay, Bush and Frist who put the spotlight on this excruciatingly private situation.

I'll reserve my deepest condemnation and loathing for the deranged and sick public figures in our government who never, ever fail for one damn minute to exploit human nature at its worst for their own gain.

I've heard a half dozen things about her care, but only one about the legal fees -- donated by right wing law firms, and any other who just want some high profile legal action. They have just proved Michael correct -- the whole thing was over the parents wanting some of the settlement. I don't wish to be cold, but I have had a problem from the beginning with the mom -- you know how the police look to a person's reaction to gauge sincerity? Drained or not, if this is the end for my child, I would have a tear.
