Lou Dobbs
My post was a putdown of every DU'er who aid that starvation is a "peaceful" way to die. She is moaning because she is in pain. They had to inject morphine so she wouldn't feel pain. This is barbaric

The morphine is standard procedure. And since she is getting morphine, I doubt she feels much of anything. Actually it was questionable how much she felt prior to the morphine.

4. Imagine the outcry here if she were
a puppy or a wild animal and was being intentionally starved to death. I guess because she is just a human without higher consciousness it is OK to treat her like this.

14. Because animals don't have the same "rights", they are put to sleep
quickly and humanely. Dr. Kavorkian promoted this type of humane ending, like many other countries around the world have, but our crazed government would never hear of it. I'm talking about euthanasia which occurs only with the written permission of a patient. Wouldn't have applied to Terri S anyway, so this is just an academic comparison. Still, terminal and/or brain dead animals are allowed to pass in a much easier manner.

6. She is probably 'moaning'
... because the respiratory system is shutting down.
They're reflexive sounds that the body emits as rigor mortis sets in and gases get forced out.

My mother died at home from cancer of the brain and didn't eat/drink for + 2 weeks before she passed - she retreated to her bed and slept away. She was IN NO PAIN.

Jebus, get some facts, will ya ?

8. I kind of thought that might be what you were doing.
Personally, I've always found sarcasm of dubious use with strangers and especially on the internet.

I'm about 50:50 on this question, but I'd like to poing out that moaning doesn't necessarily mean she is in pain.

As in my sister's recent death, the morphine may have been used to help suppress breathing in order to bring her a little quicker to the doorway.

22. SHE CANNOT FEEL PAIN BECAUSE SHE HAS NO BRAIN!
Edited on Mon Mar-28-05 07:13 PM by Walt Starr
I don't care about emotional touchy feely bullshit arguments in this. She has no cerebral cortex ergo she cannot feel pain.

What was Terri Shiavo died fifteen years ago and her body is catching up.

Be rational and stop the bullshit touchy feely crap. The woman died when her brain liquified!

35. You're goddamned right I can prove that!
Here's the proof. She has no brain!

The dark blue is spinal fluid. The light areas are scar tissue. There is no cerebral cortex. Cerebral cortex is reqired to process the sensation of pain, ergo Terri Shiavo feels no pain.

OMG.

Prove she is moaning.

How does Lou know she is moaning?

She was given morphine in case she felt pain.

Lou Dobbs is your source. HAHA

Thanks for the update.

Hey I bet you think Michael is hiding something that's why he refuses an autopsy.

Oh wait he is letting an autopsy be preformed.

19. She moans because a few synapses in her brainstem misfire
She has no cerebral cortex (c.f. CT Scan of Terri Shiavo's brain), ergo she cannot feel pain.

She's dead and her body is finally catching up fifteen years later.

24. She was given 2 very small doses of morphine last week and
Saturday. She is NOT on a morphine drip. The moaning is common when the body is shutting down. The nurse administered the 2nd morphine when she heard the moan.

From what I've read, she moans when her body is reacting to something. It's reflexive and is common with patients in a persistent vegetative state.

Morphine is not always given when there is pain. Sometimes, the nurses will give morphine in order to calm the family's anxieties. The patient doesn't need it.

29. The morphine is in suppository form
and she only gets 5 mg. The administration of morphine has absolutely nothing to do with pain because Terri Shiavo is incapable of feeling pain.
