A monthly DU economic boycott?
Economic boycotts seem to be one of the only
ways we peasants can effect change to erring corporations.

It would be great to be on the same page in
harnessing the power in numbers
of DUers and our pals to boycott a corporation and
or its product for a month (longer if it takes that). Maybe
this deserves its own forum...
alternative buying sources would also be good
to note.

I've found a few boycott corps sites. Add your
own also and what do you think of the idea of
a boycott that we're all participating in at the
same time?

1. I'd be up for something like that
If we could agree on a single company, we might be able to focus our economic power enough for them to notice.

2. I agree
but it seems that the Schiavo case threads
are more interesting to young DUers....

3. Honestly, I'd rather do a "full metal jacket" against the corp. media.
Aw, hell,...I don't know!!!

I buy local.

It just seems to me that the corporate media has its tenacles wrapped around our people,...

4. You have the Internet...you can buy anything anywhere
especially from that mom and pop owned store
that gives you a smile and calls you by name.
Spend your money wisely.

6. By "local" I mean I buy from "mom and pop owned" stores.
They are the best!!! One fellow even helps my son learn the art of archery and helps him choose and fit add-ons to his bow.

I guess I basically engage in an economic boycott each day *LOL*.

I'm just seriously po'd at the mass manipulation by corporate media which feeds our people a heavy diet of bs and consumerism.

5. One at a time, we can make a difference
Corporations are here to stay and the ones
that deal honestly, leaving no pollution in
their wake we don't have a beef with...it's
the ones who commit crimes, avoid taxes,
treat workers without regard to employment
laws...we can stop supporting them and
their products, boycott in public and
on the Internet.

7. I agree...I'd be willing to participate too. If there's one thing
that repukes LOVE it's money. If people stop buying their crap, literally, they'd come around real fast.

What I'd love to see: people on bikes--all over the country bypassing the oil pumps. Like in China. I bet they'd make laws banning bicycling--LOL.

10. Boycott's are very difficult to do effectively.
It would be nice to do something like that though. Frankly there are some companies, like Walmart and McDonalds, that no DUer should ever shop at, but we see lounge threads about people going to Walmart all the time.

11. keep it basic
I basically boycott Wal-mart and cable tv.. and of course certain brands like Nike.

I hope it's OK to shop at Target, Whole Foods, and Kroger. I mean, there are limits....

I'm really pissed right now because the only local phone service is SBC; the others aren't even competitive and SBC really sucks... I get a different bill every month because they want to scam me.

16. Disney owns ABC, which edited out the "Fox blocker"
references on a TV show that aired recently, along with all other negative references to Fox News.

It would send a powerful message on media bias if everyone boycotted Disneyland, Disney World, and stopped buying Disney videos, books etc. Each boycotter should contact the companies (Disney and ABC) directly to state why you have stopped buying Disney products.
