C-SPAN question: Is oil a National Security issue?
All but one of the callers said YES! So it appears that there is near complete agreement, and that, my friends, is a mandate! Now of course, there were a couple of dumb asses that talked about how the chimp, wanted to drill in Alaska, as if it will help, but most people said renewables, and a better public transportation system was the way to go. We need to have our DEM leadership formulate a plan and push for it!!!

1. did they mention it's also immoral
for us to assume that we should control the world's oil? Guess the europeans should have colonized the middle east. Oh that's right we tried that with the crusades. Maybe if they knew about peak oil back then the knights would have fought harder.

2. Cheney and Bush Co. need to be put on notice
Before you send our boys into an Armageddon war for oil there are three things you had better be prepared to do:

(1) Show you have a firm commitment to finding clean alternate energy sources.

(2) Convince this country that it's time to conserve.

(3) Nationalize oil. Prove to us that you're not killing our boys just to make your life more obscenely richer than it already is.

3. If oil's a National Security issue than so's oil usage.
How much longer would our strategic reserve last if we had cars and trucks in America that got twice the gas mileage we get today?

5. you're right...
Drilling in Alaska will not help at all, even when it does come online in 10 years. Gulf states will be the only cost effective places to send it as far as the U.S. is concerned and the rest will be sold to oil-starved(by then)China. Maybe we can use it to pay down the 500 catrillion, wabillion, zillion dollars we will by then owe on our signature note with them.
As far as our national security...let's be more like our leader: Don't worry, be happy!
