Republican advisor died of drug overdose in Carrie Fisher house: coroner

LOS ANGELES (AFP) - A media advisor who helped US President George W. Bush (news - web sites) get re-elected, died of a drug overdose in the home of Hollywood movie star Carrie Fisher (news), a coroner revealed.

Robert Stevens, 42, was found dead in a guest room of the home of the "Star Wars" actress who is the daughter of movie legend Debbie Reynolds and singer Eddie Fisher (news), on February 26.

The Los Angeles coroner's office ruled that Stevens, who was reportedly an old friend of Reynolds, died after overdosing on a cocktail of cocaine and the powerful painkiller oxycodone.

The death was ruled as "accidental," coroners said, adding that Stevens had a pre-existing heart condition. Coroner's officials had earlier said that Stevens also had a reported history of drug abuse.

He served as co-chairman of the entertainment task force for the Bush-Cheney 2004 re-election campaign that saw Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney (news - web sites) win a second term in office in November.
