I have a question. Who opened up the doors to all the insane asylums
and said to the people inside: "Hey, we're kinda tired, why don't you guys take over the country for a while?"

WHO DID IT?

When I find out who did, I'm going to kick ALL their asses.

1. here is a story for ya
two years ago I called my congress critter, at the time hawaii

the staffer was a tad tired and I was a tad irritated... (when aren't we these days) I actually asked a Congressional Staffer, since when were the insane allowed to take charge of the asylum?

Some shock, some silence then some laughter.

She got it, and she actually said, thank you, as nobody made her day by actually speaking truth to power, to a staffer of a congress criter.

;-)

2. I'll let you know who did it if I find out, and I have my suspicions...
Rush and Newt come to mind, along with GHWB to name a few.

16. George Shultz
Mentor of Condi, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Cheney, Ahnold. Introduced Condi to Bush*, and she in turn introduced him to Wolfowitz. Architect of the "energy crisis" in California as Ahnold's economic adviser. Reportedly played a central role in getting Bush elected and putting together his "neocon" team.

Background: sec of state under Reagan, big man in Bechtel, chairman, international board of advisers in JP Morgan Chase, American Enterprise Institute (with Perle and co.), Hoover Institution (with Condi), Committee on the Present Danger (with Rumsfeld, Woolsey, Bill Casey, Lieberman). Was aggressively in favour of war on Iraq.

But I agree, webmeister GHWB is a candidate as well, despite his purported opposition to some of the admin's policies, and Newt sure ain't innocent either.

3. Gotta blame Reagan on that one....
He's the one that turned everyone out in the streets. Some of those people had to have found jobs in Washington, DC. :P

More seriously, though, We're seeing the cumulative effects of many, many interlocking and overlapping influences, many of which have caused the general public to fall asleep in class, so to speak. When their world comes crashing down around them (as it did in 1929), they'll be shaken back to reality, as were the citizens of that previous time, will throw out the Bedlam Boys, and will try to make a government more attuned to their needs. Don't expect it to happen without some catalyst, though.

Cheers.

11. Yup, Saint Teflon did for America what he did to CA.
He not only emptied out state mental hospitals here like Camarillo but increased the populations of the remaining ones like Atascadero....houses the criminally insane.
Reagan single-handedly created a homeless base of those unable to care for themselves.....just threw them out into the cold to fend for themselves. 5150s loose on the streets....many schizophrenic.
A 5150 in CA is a person unable to care for themselves due to mental illness.
CA now has lots of them on the streets. But we hide them so y'all will be safe when "vacationing" in CA.

15. Point well taken, PunPirate...
I never made the connection between the nutjobs now in DC and Governor Reagan's heinous act of emptying the asylums. I guess some of them got suited up to wander the halls of power.

(For those who don't remember when they were called "insane asylums," asylum meant a place of refuge. As opposed to sleeping in the freeway underpass not knowing where your next meal will come from.)

5. Here's where you can start
1- Bunko groups and Pampered Chef parties usually have a ton of women who need a good ass kicking - at least the ones I was involved in - "we need God in school.....oh no, I'm sleeping in on Sunday.." "those liberals are destroying my children......when are we having a Naughty Nightie party? I want one of those new electronic boyfriends.." "Bill Clinton is such a perv........get a load of the buns on that new UPS drivier?.."

2- go to those HUGE churches where you park in areas that have shuttle buses to the church/arena - we parked in "meekness" once, they all need an ass kicking

3- go to military repugs, govt employed repugs - they have never had to rely on the "corporate honor" for their livlihood yet cry about big govt, taxes, blah blah blah

4- small business repugs who shop at China Mart and the ilk and are fighting to stay alive - ****ASS KICK****

6. Sorry... it was me
I swear I just left the door open for a couple of seconds while I went and got a cream soda. When I came back the asylum had emptied out already. I tried to catch them. But they were too quick.

Sorry. Please be gentle with me.

Here is a picture of a cute cabbit to distract you:

9. It was a sucessful escape on their part.
If you go back and take a look at the first Bush administration and replace the father of a son of a Bush with the current son of a Bush in the White House, you have made a good start. Once we've cleaned up that house, we can start on the halls and offices in Congress. We need to look no further. Honestly. It really is them.

12. In Michigan, it was former (R) Governor John Engler...
Seriously, his (former) administration closed pretty much every asylum we had here in our state and thousands of insane people were let loose - some (who still had money) went to "group homes" but lots of others went free to roam the streets, homeless.
