Has Anyone Pumped Any Inferior Gas Lately???

While traveling home from Orlando recently my car started sputtering. I had just had my oil and transmission fluid checked and no warning lights came on, so I thought maybe my radiator had a leak or something. Even though there was no indication of this.

As I was driving along I thought perhaps it was just a fluke of some kind but decided to turn off at an exit after it seemed to be getting worse. I asked a man to help me because I had no idea what it could be, so he suggested I pour some STP in my gas tank. He then asked me how much gas I had in my tank, I told him about 3/4 full, then he asked where I had gotten my last gas. I told him at Hess and BP. To my surprise he told me that he heard that Shell had been selling some bad fuel and perhaps that was what was going on.

I only had about 50 miles to go before I got home and to my surprise, the STP actually did stop the lurking and sputtering. Could this really be from pumping BAD gas?? Any thoughts??
