Something that doesn't seem related but is: Brazilian abortion laws.

Abortion is outlawed in Brazil. Some months ago, a law was passed that would allow abortion of ANENCEPHALIC fetuses unrestricted. The Church (mostly the Catholic Church, but the less-numerous evangelical fundies reared their ugly asses too) screamed bloody murder, and through intense lobbying, managed to stall the law.

There have been cases of priests that go to the homes of women pregnant with fetuses diagnosed with anencephalia, to coerce them into not aborting. Sick, sick, sick.

All for something that is 100%, unequivocally, NOT a person. Sound familiar?
