Ashley Smith thanks Jesus Christ for her $70,000 in rewards
for causing a miracle to occur and making the courthouse killer turn himself in.

i just saw her presented with her reward for his capture, and the first thing she did was thank jesus.

it's going to be a weird easter weekend

1. Surviving 24 hours with that guy
might be enough to make anyone a believer

2. God's always a little behind....
instead of stopping the shooting, he hears the *bang* *bang*, looks up from his his computer (he reads DU) and says "oh shit! not again!" and then guides the suspect to Ashley for eventual capture.

Get on the ball, God!

5. The question is: Did he sign the check personally and is it good?
According to the preachers God is always broke. Pass the basket.

As it turns out, she didn't know the perp and she is a recovering drug addict who has been through a lot.

10. she deserves the money
it's just that cnn is now the christian news network, terri mania on easter weekend and promoting ashley's religion, all very convenient for whipping up zealotry and theocracy and ratings and profits.

16. We should stick to making fun of the vampiric media, not someone like her
She handled a traumatic situation calmly and survived it. She also helped make sure that there were no more victims. If she credits Jesus for this, I'm not going to criticize it. She acted in a manner consistent with Jesus' instructions in Matthew 5.

when others affected by exactly the same incident are killed or seriously injured.

14. Has she made any political statements?
As far as I know, we don't know how she votes, or even if. What if in an interview, she said she were a Democrat? Would that change any of the hostile posting about her that we see so much of here? So many here act like she is a Republican. Is she?

15. Its Natural to Thank God for making it out of a bad situation alive.
Lay off her. She did a good thing. She wasn't outside an abortion clinic asking people to shoot the doctors. We should encourage the Good side of Christianity.

17. The engineer speaks my mind
It is nothing short of miraculous to consider that this woman, unarmed and facing a murderous thug in her home, not only got out with her life, but ended the whole violent episode peacefully with Brian Nichols turning himself in without a struggle.

Where was God prior to this point? Why didn't God save the other folks? These are terrific questions, and I would point the people who ask these questions to the ninth chapter of the Gospel of John. I'd recount the story here, but it just might have a little more meaning if you go read it for yourself.

18. Hear, here.
There's no reason to tear people down just because they invoke faith. This woman is a good and brave woman and it sounds like the man needed to hear what she had to say. I personally consider it not fate but the power of the human being to empathize, but she's welcome to think of it as fate or divine intervention. And so what if she was a drug addict? That's completely irrelevant to what she did, except that maybe her struggles with that helped give her the Balls of Steel she needed to deal with this guy for a whole night. I say go Ms. Smith.
