This is standard Opertaing Procedure for propagnada (pure Rovian).

You "hi-lite" or create a crisis with the intention of behavior or laws changed down the road.

example ...911 for Patriot Act , Iraq etc.....

SO ...What laws do they want changed and how will that affect us?

4. Spousal Right
to make medical decisions. Maybe even the right of the individual to make medical decisions if they don't comport to government's new "culture of life". Do you think these crazy people would care if you said pull the plug in your own Living Will?

9. Is it just me, or does this new catch phrase,
"culture of life" sound extremely scary. It is one of the spookiest terms I've heard coming from the fascists. It makes my skin crawl just to hear it. :scared:

2. I can see it now - the government will utilize this law when a woman...
...wants to terminate a pregnancy. Now the government will think they can intervene on behalf of the fetus. Yikes, religous nutbags will get ahold of sonograms and claim the fetus was mouthing "I want to live"

:eyes:

Terri Schiavo, unborn fetuses - all the same to them

11. well the right to lifers clearly have an agenda in mind in
taking up this case. for the likes of me i can't figure out how they plan to use this. but i think you are right. i think this is some sort of long term plan to attack the right of women to choose and control their bodies and an attack on the judiciary.

3. ability to impeach federal judges over frivolous matters -
leading to an all-powerful combine of the executive/legislative branch. The judicial branch will be weeded out and replaced by yes men.

Karl Rove has publicly stated he wants to change the course of American history; wants a one party rule. The republican whack jobs in control are following his blueprint.

6. we're right in thinking
the ulterior motive for all this is the neocons desire to attack the judical system and judges. The way that Judge Greer is being portrayed in the media says it all. Forget that 19 judges ruled in this case during the last 7 years. The neocons are placing the thought out there that judges shouldn't be following the law as much as they should be pandering to whatever movement seems popular by the facist Fox news and the religious fanatics.

If these nut jobs get their way. A person's personal choice will be discarded if one family member doesn't wish to honor your wishes.

13. That's if the law isn't changed.
But changing the law or writing a new one could easily do away with "living wills" or what-not...

12. Yeah, but it won't.
I think they want to lose this one. It will fire up their base for the Supreme Court nominee they are preparing to ram down our throats.

Think "Remember Terri!"

14. Nothing
I'm not saying that some stupid legislature somewhere won't pass something stupid. It's just that for all the rhetoric out of the right, they don't actually want to change the judiciary or these basic laws at all. Congress has a huge constitutional authority over the courts, and yet have NEVER exercised it. For all the fahooey over abortion, have you ever seen them go anywhere near offering a constitutional amendment? Congress never seems to want to go there,
not after Marbury vs. Madison, Dred Scott, or Brown vs. the Board.

Truth is that the congress could only get this "do nothing" piece of legislation passed. There were other proposals floating around congress (and in the State legislature too) but they can't get them passed.
