Jeb's neurologist's bizarre poem on right-to-die. Jesus

In his last-ditch, desperation attempt to save Terri Schiavo, Florida governor Jeb Bush is relying upon the medical opinion of a Jacksonville neurologist who once published a poem that bitterly attacks the "right-to-die" and doctor-assisted suicide, concluding that "the one firm reference point of truth" is "the cross of Jesus Christ the Lord."

Dr. William P. Cheshire's poem, entitled "Exit Ramp," appeared in the summer 2001 issue of a magazine called Ethics & Medicine, and is available online. It was called to Attytood's attention by our Daily News colleague, ace reporter Chris Brennan, and it is quite a catch.

The notion of a right to die
In reason finds approval nil,
From such a harsh judicial lie
Would obligate doctors to kill.

And later:

As ethical constraints give way,
Down go the lowly euthanists.
Headlong they plunge, their morals stray
Into a bleak, black, deep abyss –
