Dominos Pizza's Politics

I was ordering pizza last night and I suggested ordering Dominos. Several other people around me--whose politics I do not know--said not to because of Dominos/Dominos' executives political views. Does anyone know what these are? I did a web search and found the nearly every other pizza chain donates to right-wing causes (or in the case of the Godfather's Pizza, attempts to run for the Senate from Georgia). What do you know?

The former chairman was a pro-lifer, but I think they've gotten a new chairman. Still majorly right though.

7. I remember reading once

that their chairman was so extreme, he did not allow women working in the corporate offices to wear slacks to work. I believe the headquarters is in Michigan so that must have been real comfortable in the winter.

The last time we ordered from Dominos was about four years ago. We got a pizza for my teenager and her friend, who were babysitting my younger daughter. The pizza was so bad it almost made my husband vomit. Based on what he and the girls said, I wouldn't even try it. They were sick to their stomachs.

Politically, the guy is a right wing fundy nutjob. All these ten commandment in government building court cases are being funded by this guy. I wont even go in to how he exploits workers. Needless to say he's anti-worker.

... is named Tom Monahan, who also has the not-entirely-welcome distinction of being a former owner of the Detroit Tigers.

He's a Catholic with strong pro-life sentiments. There are some rumors he may have been a supporter of Operation Rescue, but that's not been established.

He does like to mix religion and business--he's founded a business roundtable group for Catholic CEOs.

they won't come to my house after dark because they must enter a gate to my yard. They claim there is not enough light. I have yard lights and turn on my entrance door light and garage light. No on else complains, but Domionos, don't know their problem.

except from the frozen foods aisle, and dominoes was still worse. I ordered it once when was craving pizza and thought 6 bucks was a good deal, but I threw the whole thing away after a couple bites, what a great deal that was. their cheese can't really be cheese, I don't know what it is, artificially flavored glue I think. so yeah I'm not surprised that they're RW.

but right-wing fundie nut Tom Monaghan has moved on from pizza to the Ave Maria Catholic Law School.

He used to let employee Peter Thomason have time off work to picket and harrass women at the local women's health care clinics. PT would bring his teenage and young children with him ... the poor teenagers always looked horribly mortified at having to be there with their dad.

edit: oh yeah, the Ann Arbor/Washtenaw County NOW chapter exposed Tom Monaghan's almost single-handed funding of the drive to end medicaid funding for abortions in Michigan. He made his legal donations, then there were all these $1,000-$5,000 donations made by individuals with no visible source of income, living on Domino's farms property at "Father Pat's House." I don't remember all the details. This was back in the early 90s. The NOW chapter also organized and began the Boycott Domino's movement ... we had a great picketing of the headquarters, and the chapter president got an interview on McNeil-Lehrer News show.

Last year I was behind a Papa John's delivery person. He had a "drop bush not bombs" bumper stickers and one that had a evil picture of Bush with something like "the real terrorist". We both happen to pull into a gas station....so I told him I liked the stickers and was wondering if this boss gave him any problems over them....he said yes....but word from headquarters said to leave him alone....not sure if it's true just what the guy told me.

we have several. With 3 of them I know the owners' names and was able to check their donations. 1 had no donations listed....another had a significant contributions to dems....and the last to repukes. Their pizza's are a million times better than the chains.

32. Domino Farms, Just North of Ann Arbor, MI

Used to have these massive drive-thru Christmas lights displays. Sooo many lights, and absolutely beautiful, but it was like something off National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. I went there one year with some people, and that's when I discovered how much of a pro-life, anti-gay, super-fundie organization Dominos was (is). I haven't ordered pizza from them since.

40. I used to work at Domino's HQ and was on the Xmas lights committee

That display was inspired by Jim and Tammy Baker's Heritage, USA, which immediately turned me off. THEN, when neighbors began objecting to the display because of the traffic Tom's suggestion was that we 'incorporate them into the display' and pay their electricity bills for that month. I hadn't worked there very long but couldn't let THAT go by without a response. I asked him, "Have you ever read The Great Gatsby?" (surprise, the answer was no). I said, "well the man who bought Gatsby's mansion offered to pay the property taxes of his neighbors for five years if they'd agree to thatch their roofs with straw to look like peasant cottages. They more or less ran him out of town."

Working there was very bizarre (1986-89); it was mandatory to learn how to make a pizza, women couldn't wear pants, open-toed shoes, or sleeveless blouses, men couldn't have facial hair or wear sports jackets; it had to be suits. It was mandatory to dress up for Halloween and once we had to come to work in evening attire (cocktail dresses for women, tuxes for men) and watch a fashion show, then listen to Tom lecture on proper business attire.

There was a chapel in the building; Tom went to Mass every morning and it was packed with kissups wearing their name tags.

I used to drive the back way to work so I wouldn't have to cross NOW's picket lines and one day said to myself "What am I doing here? Why am I doing PR for a man I loathe?" I was getting ready to quit when my boss decided to fire me instead. Best thing that ever happened to me.

The one I go to is run by a Syrian family. Over the years we have got to know each other and have mutual respect. Last night he wished me a happy holiday. That was well-meaning, but next time there I will need to explain that all westerners do not subscribe to western religions.

where did the money trail lead in reference to Hill? He was unemployed for years after being kicked out of his church. Yet he was able to continually demonsrate against abortion. Who paid his bills? The money trail is always the key. The Swiftboat Liars Club has been paid by oil money for years to lie and besmirch. It's how those guys earn their living. More publicity is needed on the growing industry of paid rightwing liars. Is there a table at the job fairs for these folks? Will lie for profit?
