Turns out "pro-life" isn't all that popular, even with conservatives.
All the Florida legislature has to do is make a law of general applicability barring removal of feeding tubes in order to "Save Terri". They could do it this second.

But they won't. The rhetoric of life being precious, starvation wrong and cruel, really doesn't reflect how the conservatives feel about things. Supposedly conservative lawmakers and Jeb would rewrite the law for the Terri Schiavo case alone as "extraordinary" and "unprecedented" when in fact it is neither and they are okay with that. They want to Save Terri for the fundies and let all the thousands and thousands of others in the exact same circumstances die quietly and out of the political limelight.

2. As a pro-life social liberal, I think the most rational approach is
being followed in the Terri S's case. I see a humongous
difference between killing a perfectly healthy baby who
is perfectly capable of surviving on its own (as in some
late term abortions) and a severely brain damaged person
who needs to be let go such as Terri S.

After all it has been 15 years since Terri had brain damage
and any hope of her reviving is long gone. I see no ambiguity
in that with my pro-life stand on late term abortions.

3. That's why I used quotes.
The rhetoric of "life" has been reaching some extremes in order to justify the actions taken re Schiavo.

4. Besides which,
They'd rather have the media circle jerk for their nutcase contingent than actually do anything. Republican SOP: rather than do something, scream about it and try to blame it on your enemies.

6. One of the many secrets in America, pro-life is a minority opinion
Just like almost the entire republican platform
