<snip> BAGHDAD, Iraq, March 23 - Iraqi and American forces killed at least 80 insurgents during a Tuesday morning raid on what appeared to be the biggest guerrilla training camp yet discovered, Iraqi officials said today. Seven Iraqi police officers were also killed and six were wounded in what American and Iraqi officials characterized as an especially fierce battle.

1. It's the "Look over here, we're winning!" meme!

In the wake of Bush's faltering SS reform drive and the Terri Schiavo debacle, US forces are suddenly killing the enemy by the dozens, turning the most dangerous towns in Iraq into the safest, and ordering parts through their local Home Depots!

2. I'm getting conflicting casualty reports here in France.

"It was one of the most successful operations we've had," said Iraqi interior ministry spokesman Sabhah Kadim.

The US military confirmed the operation, but was unable to say how many insurgents were killed.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/4374533.stm

The TV news is reporting that the insurgents have passed out leaflets claiming only 11 had been killed.

It's strange that they can't get an exact number...

3. According to AFP it never happened
Insurgents control raided 'Qaeda-Baath' training camp in Iraq

About 30 to 40 fighters were seen at the lakeside training camp attacked by US and Iraqi forces the day before, claiming they had never left, an AFP correspondent who visited the site said.

I couldn't get your link to come up but:

http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/BC0C5535-3F85-467F-862A-06730D3A9A77.htm

This is the Al-jazeera site that disputes this. I can't imagine OUR gov. trying to manipulate the news. <sarcasm>

Possibly looking for a little cover on the Schiavo case? Maybe I'm just a cynic.

5. It's really not making sense....
In the title of my previous post's link it says 84 insurgents were killed, but then in the article it says the military can't confirm the number.
