Randi Rhodes just made a terrific point
on her show about the current mess surrounding Terri Schiavo.

She specifically mentioned Hannity and Scarborough and the misinformation the two of them are slinging hither and yon about this Dr. William Hammesfahr, calling him a Nobel Prize winner(which they are not) and spewing reams of incorrect info about this woman. Have either one of these smucks done any fact checking before giving out any medical info?

NO THEY HAVEN'T!!!

Yet the Right-wingers and Neo-cons drove Dan Rather off the air for supposedly the very same thing. Saying he aired incorrect info, didn't do any fact checking about the Bush letters, yet these two slimy pigs have done the exact same thing night after night.

I wish there was a way we can make them pay for their crap reporting.

:grr: :grr:

1. They are paid to intentionally misinform. Rather made an honest mistake.
Edited on Wed Mar-23-05 05:32 PM by BrklynLiberal
FOX would not dump them. They are spouting the party line as they are supposed to do.

That quack is being referred to an a "Nobel" nominee on most of the cable news channels. They are all idiots. Some of them are even saying he was nominated for a Nobel prize in Medicine. There in no prize in Medicine!!!
Probably the only thing they are saying that is the truth is the names of the main people involved in this fiasco. None of the other incidents that they report, as they describe them bear any resemblance to the truth.

7. Precisely
TV news IS disinformation- it has been for years. It's not meant to be accurate or proide facts- only to "entertain" and allow a forum for whatever opinions the senior news editors and the sponsors want broadcast.

The chances of finding out ANYTHING of value there is slim to none.

22. You are right about that.
It's mostly crap now. No real news on these shows at all.

11. There is a Nobel Prize in medicine. Hammesfahr hasn't won it, though.
Edited on Wed Mar-23-05 05:45 PM by KamaAina
He's actually a "Nobel Prize nominee". Anyone can be a "Nobel Prize nominee". All you have to do is bribe the wino who hangs out at the corner to write a letter to the Nobel committee, and hey presto! You, too, are a "Nobel Prize nominee".

Of course, in order to get on Hannity and what's-his-face, you also have to be a right-wing wacko, so there goes that brilliant plan...

edit: speling

12. That is what Al said on his show and he was specifically talking
about this issue - the BS about the Dr. and the Nobel Prize crap Hannity and Scarborough were spreading.

3. Well, they used their blogs to attack Dan Rather - Our excellent bloggers
should do the same for Hannity/Scarborough and ride these two anti-American twits out of town on a rail.

6. oh how right you are - but I still hope our people can unleash a massive
attack on these two - their words truly undermine our country. Fox would never get rid of them but at least we can try to hold their stinkin dirty laundry up for the country to examine.

9. There is a way. Boycott network news.
Anyone THAT interested in what the mainstream sees on their TV can read the same stories on the Internet, and finish in 1/3 the time... PLUS have access to sites which actually tell the truth.

But that's not all. Online you get to decide how much attention you pay to advertisements.

You also get to tailor your surfing to, not just your overall month-to-month preferences, but your hour-to-hour moods.

Now, how much would you pay? :)

14. I haven't watched MSM
sent just after the elections. The only ones I watch now are Keith Olbermann and Jon Stewart.

I just wish the Main Stream TV News Watchers would wake up and stop.

This case makes me sick. My family has been though this kind of tragedy.

My Uncle (mom's only brother) had emergency gall-bladder surgery in 1994. After the surgery, he suffered a massive stroke and was soon declared braindead. We knew that nothing could be done for him and had to let him go.

IF ONE OF THESE BASTARDS had jumped into the middle of our decision to remove his life-support I think I would have beat them senseless. We were in pain at losing him, but knew it was the last loving thing we could do for him. Keeping him hooked up wouldn't have made him better, it would have only made us feel better.

16. No kidding. The one positive thing I extracted from this news is...
... the serious need to put your wishes in a legally binding written document. I cannot help Terri. But I can help others avoid her plight.

Make a will today. Somehow.

My spouse and I did our wills (including living wills) a few nights ago.

Quicken 2005 comes with a WillMaker program. It's basic, but decent. It met our needs. There's a section for end-of-life care, including instructions for terminal illness and for permanent unconsciousness.

For every person who feels sympathy for Terri, or Michael, or the Schindlers... save your loved ones from going through this.

Make your living will today.

20. OldLeftieLawyer on DU
was kindly offering to send anyone that wanted it a real good word attachment with a Living Will and some other info for those that wanted it.

I had always wanted to do this, but haven't bothered. This whole insane mess has made me realize that this was something I should do. I even mentioned it to my folks just in case.

21. Seriously, do it this week or weekend.
If you have access to a lawyer, that's great.

Quicken 2005 worked for me.

The Detroit Free Press site has PDF docs available for download (though they're kinda bare bones).

But verbal discussions generally don't hold up in court battles. Put it on paper, with your signature. That way it's clear what you meant.

18. "news" is an obsolete concept.
Nowadays, we have info-tainment, propaganda, and research.

The first two are inexpensive and passive.

The third requires a substantial personal investment of money, time, and energy... but is widely believed to be well worth it.

19. Just saw a form letter on a blog to nominate "fill in the blank"
So, he/she too, can appear on right-wing talk shows.

http://uggabugga.blogspot.com/
....................................................
Nobel Foundation
Box 5232, SE-102 45
Stockholm, Sweden

I hereby nominate _________________________

for the Nobel Prize in: (check one)

Physics

Chemistry

Medicine

Literature

Peace

Economics

Now that you've received this letter, my nominee will be able to appear on Scarborough Country and Hannity and Colmes, be treated as somebody serious and pontificate like Dr. William Hammesfahr did recently.

Regards,
