PHOTOS: Texas parents use their kids in Schiavo trespass
Edited on Wed Mar-23-05 02:52 PM by Bluebear
The mother insists it was the children's idea: "I am proud of them," said the boys' mother Geilen Keys from Texas, who was not arrested. "They are very mature and they said 'we want to go and offer some water to Terri'." (Not that she could have said that it was an illegal act and she forbade it, even though it was the "children's idea".

Pinellas Park police Lt. Kevin Riley, second from left, handcuffs 14-year-old Josie Keys, left, while Pinellas County Sheriff's deputies place her father Chris in the back of a van after arresting members of the family for trespassing Wednesday morning March 23, 2005 outside the Woodside Hospice in Pinellas Park, Fla. The family members were attempting to bring Terri Schiavo a cup of water.

Pinellas Park police Lt. Kevin Riley, standing upper right, prepares to arrest members of the Keys family as they were attempting to bring Terri Schiavo water Wednesday morning, March 23, 2005 outside the Woodside Hospice in Pinellas Park, Fla. The Keys family, of Burnet, Tex., kneeling, from left, Josie, 14, Gabriel, 10, Chris, the children's father, and Cameron 12, were all taken into custody. Galen Keys, upper left, the children's mother looks on, but was not arrested.

Gabriel Keys (foreground) is arrested by police officers for trespassing in Pinellas Park, Florida, March 23, 2005. The young protester attempted to take a glass of water into the Woodside Hospice for the brain-damaged Terri Schiavo. A federal judge rejected a request from the parents of Schiavo to order her feeding tube reinserted, dealing a blow to attempts by the U.S. Congress and the White House to prolong her life.

====
And in Alabama, 2003:

Chris Keys, also of Burnet, had another motivation to get arrested.

"I didn't want my sons to know that their dad sat around and fussed about it over coffee and didn't do anything about it," Keys said.

15. not gonna say anything bad here. the media and r politicians
did this. but this issue is strong and true to a lot of people, regardless of belief. i can totally understadn those that emotion has played on now for the last 5 days, and now has gone to an hysteria. and the child, the kids of this world, and their wanting to take back their world. to look at this woman, absolutely their heart, would and should automatically go to saving this life

i am not going to say anything negative about these parents nor kids

i pat the kids on back for being true and brave and courage in their conviction, regardless of the misplacement

the repugs christian and politicians have manipulated the pictures, the story, told lies.

we gotta understand where it is now. these people have been lied to, and doing this out of emotion

30. you dont know how passionate my 9 year old is bluebear, and i
am not convincing or doing to him. i pulled him out of all politics after the election. i pulled all news out of my house and away from kids last spring. but just the other nite he was saying so much on his mind and one of those were politics. what i say to him, i am not even talking it much, not getting it at school, took him out of private christian, where it was tlaked about. not talked in public

you know what he is doing bluebear, without me knowing

he is reading this board

9 years old

he feels this is his world too. and he feels he needs to be aware and educated, to help to make it a better place

what these kids are protesting, are thier beliefs. and i need to honor those kids. again, though i disagree, but with teri, and how it is being presented to them, i am not surprised out all by their passion

if i were to give this story to son. his instinct would be to save her too. i just would go further, explaining life death, state and federal and our constitution, courts role. i would give it to him all. i doubt these kids are being given that. ergo.....

the mistake i am seeing being made

39. Contributing to the delinquency of a minor is certainly not good parenting
Trespass, assault on a vulnerable individual, intending bodily harm are not moral acts, they're criminal acts. After their trial, perhaps they should be sentenced to a vigorous round of parenting classes? (That's a joke, I realize they are probably incorrigible.) :-)

19. Has anyone thought
what in the hell effect this circus is having on other families who have loved ones at the hospice?

They and all their holier than thou enablers are treading on the last days of others at the hospice and their families. They are using their own children.

Sure it was the kids idea. Who took them from Texas to Florida? Geez when my kids were that age, they thought up the idea of going to a cemetery at Halloween and making spooky noises to scare people. I found out and grounded them. I told them what they thought was a neat idea was being played out where people had buried their loved ones. It was sacred, not a playground.

Those people are turning a hospice area into a circus that other families have to pass through to spend last moments with those they love!!!! Have those demonstrators no shame?

34. Yes, it's a scary thing.
I work for a hospice and my job is to make the patient as comfort as possible. Also, to help the families cope and keep them informed on the dying process. It's quite a shock to people what's involved.
It's a very emotional time and I can't imagine one of my clients and their families going through that. What a nightmare.

It was in the St. Pete times yesterday. She claims she was held up in security and missed saying goodbye to her dying grandfather. The hospice denies this and I kind of want to take them at their word in my family we have had nothing but positive experiences with hospices (not this one though).
