4. Thanks for posting this, Will.
Did you see the threads here yesterday on how protesters shut down military recruiting stations in several cities--including NYC?

There are also anti-draft protests planned nationwide for March 31st.

Momentum is clearly building.

Even conservatives are waking up. Last week my Republican neighbor called me to "report" an Arnold Schwarzenegger petition gatherer--so I could turn Arnold's stooges into our new "Report Arnold" hotline!
(She's a retired nurse, and none too happy with the Terminator Guv.)

Locally, our community newspaper has turned downright liberal. The editor actually called me this week and asked me to write an editorial on "fake news." Next up: a story on secrecy in government.

We're waking America up, one neighborhood at a time.

6. I have the Budapest pic from last year.
It's beautiful. They did the same peace sign this year.

I must say, I was (WAS) terribly disappointed that the Shiavo scandal was getting so much coverage and nothing was exposed about another historical round of global protests. But, now,...I am finding myself actually celebrating that the extremists which constitute the base of the far right-wing Republicans are getting such extensive coverage because,...anyone close to being a centered human being will find them quite repulsive.

BTW: Thanks for the post. A bit of inspiration is needed from time to time.

10. March 31 National Call to Action-Student Walkouts:No Draft, No Way!
March 31 National call to action. Not only to call attention to the possibility of a draft and refusal to further the agenda of the Pentagon but to highlight the casualties in Iraq, the horros and war crimes visited upon the Iraqi people and to build momentum for a Spring and Summer of intense anti-war protests. ONE BIG EVENT IS NOT ENOUGH! STOP THE MASSACRE OF THE IRAQI PEOPLE.

No Draft, No Way!

On March 31, the Selective Service System (SSS) will report to President Bush that it is ready to implement the draft within 75 days. Right now, the SSS is staffing local draft boards, training volunteer registrars to work on high school and college campuses, and streamlining its induction process. They have also gained access to the Department of Education's computer files, to ensure maximum registration.

It is clear that the Bush Administration is preparing for a draft. They are desperate for new soldiers to continue the occupation of Iraq and to prepare for new wars against Iran, Syria, and elsewhere.

At the same time that Bush is looking to youth to supply cannon fodder for his wars, he is busy cutting financial aid and slashing social programs. The same young people that Bush wants to use to fight his wars are finding it harder to pay for their education, find jobs that pay a living wage, or obtain basic necessities, like health care or affordable housing.

It is time for young people, who are already under attack from the Bush Administration, to take a stand.

On March 31, the same day that the Selective Service System is reporting that the draft is ready to go, youth all over the country will report that they will refuse to go.

Local No Draft, No Way organizers and other anti-draft activists are planning protests, walkouts, and direct action at recruiting centers, selective service offices, and other sites. We call upon students, youth, and antiwar activists to organize local actions on March 31 to say "No Draft, No Way!"

11. This makes me uneasy:
"A fact to consider: The mainstream news media all but buried stories about the global protests this weekend. CNN.com even ran an online poll at one point asking if it was time to have the Iraq protests stopped."

"Have the protests stopped"????

Kinda like Tianamen Square?
