Who has heard of this "Rev. Dollar"?
I just caught this guy on TV this morning and was shocked. He was blantently talking about how you have to give money to God (presumably through the good reverend's bank account) in order to become rich. The old "invest in Jesus and get ten-fold back" scam.

How did these people get so blatant? I haven't seen anything like this since Jimmy "donate or God will kill me" Swaggart (or whoever that was - they're all the same monster to me).

3. Yes, that's him
dang, I was amazed. Of course, you think I'd be used to it. I came from a "Godfather-like" Roman Catholic Church where once per year they would carry a statue of Jesus through town and encourage people to tape money to it. You ain't seen nothing till you've seen a life sized statue of Jesus with money all over him being carried down the street.

4. Creflo is based out of Atlanta
Just as bad as Swaggert or Pat Roberts. Coming in a close second is Bishop Eddie Long.

These megachurches seem to breed nutjobs.

6. Money counting rooms
My wife and I were talking to the owner of this bed and breakfast we were staying at a few weeks ago. Somehow, the conversation went to these kinds of people. The owner of the BnB said that a guy he knew worked for one of these people as a money counter. I guess the money counting rooms are very similar to those in casinos. Glass walls with security watching everwhere, and tables covered in money. The only difference, his friend said, was that they also filed away every single letter they recieved with the money, so that it could be used later to solicit even more cash.
Somehow, I doubt that any of this money goes to god.

People can be so damned simple.

8. Creflo Dollar learned his craft from Kenneth Copeland...
who learned his craft from some other "word-faith" preacher.

They all spew the "God wants you to be rich" crap. If you're poor, it's your fault because you don't have enough faith.

If you're sick and dying, it's your fault because you don't have enough faith.

10. My church teaches about the connection between prosperity and giving
but their definition of prosperity is not just about money, it's about viewing yourself as a prosperous person, and in thankfulness for the good in your life, giving a portion to the church and it's outreach ministries (we support a soup kitchen and various other programs).

TV preachers are crooks, for the most part. Even a lot of fundamentalists are suspicious of TBN programming.

9. Make the check payable to: "God"
Of course it would be inserted into the tall stack and be automatically cashed along with all the others.

I used to get a kick out of listening to a "Brother DeCure" on late night radio. His main theme was enticing people to send him money in exchange for audible "prayers" over the air. If you called in and said you'd give him $10 he'd mumble something for a couple seconds - but if you pledged, say, $100 he'd go into convulsions, screeching in tongues and accompanied by his two Ikettes, or whoever they were. It was funny.

14. Reminds me of the Stones
"He said that if I send twenty dollars
to the Church of the Sacred Bleeding Heart of Jesus
that they'd say my prayer on the radio and
all my dreams would come true!
So I did. And I got a prayer, and girl ...
well YEW know what kinda eyes she got!"

11. Maybe he is trying to help Teri
Rev. Dollar is probably asking for as much money as anyone can spare so that a miracle will happen for Teri. Nevermind that it goes straight into his checking account!

13. Sounds just like ol' Rev Ike
Who's still around BTW, though he seems to have toned way down from the flamboyant rockstar persona he had in his salads days, back in the 70s:

15. The little bit I ever saw of reverend Ike showed a certain
honesty I liked in that he would say "You WANT your preacher to look good. You want to be able to point him out in that big flashy car and say "There go MY reverend. I give HIM my money. Don't he look fine?"

Hahaha -- no pretense about where it was going.
