Washington Posts most vile editorial peice praising Pinochet!....

This has to be the vilest piece of editorial praise for a monster like Pinochet I have ever seen, that frames the critics of Iraq as supporting terrorism.

Please write to the editors of the WP that this is not journalism, this is hate mongering.

"A leftist judge in Spain orders the arrest of a pathetic, near-senile Gen. Augusto Pinochet eight years after he's left office, and becomes a human rights hero -- a classic example of the left morally grandstanding in the name of victims of dictatorships long gone. Yet for the victims of contemporary monsters still actively killing and oppressing -- Khomeini and his successors, the Assads of Syria and, until yesterday, Hussein and his sons -- nothing. No sympathy. No action. Indeed, virulent hostility to America's courageous and dangerous attempt at rescue.

The international left's concern for human rights turns out to be nothing more than a useful weapon for its anti-Americanism. Jeane Kirkpatrick pointed out this selective concern for the victims of U.S. allies (such as Chile) 25 years ago. After the Cold War, the hypocrisy continues. For which Arab people do European hearts burn? The Palestinians. Why? Because that permits the vilification of Israel -- an outpost of Western democracy and, even worse, a staunch U.S. ally.

Championing suffering Iraqis, Syrians and Lebanese offers no such satisfaction. Hence, silence."

1. Krauthammer is just a neocon punk
Is that his real name BTW? I think he's pulling a Micheal Wiener on us with a name like that.

2. Not suprising,
After all, the Post is a RW mouthpiece, and if they started bashing Pinochet, then they would have to start criticising Bushco. There is a clear link between the Pinochet regime and the Bushco regime. In fact we are engaged in a national debate over an issue that originally cropped up in the Pinochet regime, the privatization of Social Security. The labor minister under Pinochet, Jose Pinera, privatized Chile's equivalent of Social Security, to disasterous effect. Yet it was this move that won Pinera an interview covering privatization matters with then Govenor Bush back 1997. Read more about this unholy alliance here<http://www.motherjones.com/news/outfront/2005/03/jose_pinera.html>

Thus, being critical of a bloodthirsty dictator would mean that they would have to be critical that came out of that regime, including Bushco's obsession with SS privatization.

4. While most of the opinion piece is awful
I have to say he's not actually praising Pinochet - he's dismissing him as a dictator 'long gone' - who did have victims.
