"GOP: the party of theocracy"
well that's what their rep. from CT Chris Shays thinks anyway:

<snip>

"My party is demonstrating that they are for states' rights unless they don't like what states are doing," said Representative Christopher Shays of Connecticut, one of five House Republicans who voted against the bill. "This couldn't be a more classic case of a state responsibility."

"This Republican Party of Lincoln has become a party of theocracy," Mr. Shays said. "There are going to be repercussions from this vote. There are a number of people who feel that the government is getting involved in their personal lives in a way that scares them."

4. It is clear
that a mutant strain of neocon-extremist christian virus has infected the United States. We are going to have to reach a higher level in order to do battle with the beast.

In other words... states rights til we don't like the state action...

7. They're just quoting Abe Lincoln, their first president
The GOP has finally come full circle.

The Union (and we don't mean those subversive collective bargaining units) must be preserved!

8. Morality
Some people use the terms morality and ethics interchangeably. Morality as a word was coined to translate ethics into Latin; but they have meanings which have diverged. The Democrats are the party of ethics, and repubs are the party of morality and we all should draw a distinction. Morality requires no introspection, and is a law given by God to earthly authority, Ethics requires a philosophical untangling of interests. They are not the same. Ethics aims at good and assumes the individual power to reach it and recognize it, and morality aims at power, and assumes only the goodness and power of a higher force. Morality is unethical. Worse than this, it is not as the monk said that justice is the genus and law a species of it. Rather, law is a form of injustice, which breeds injustice because it concentrates power and wealth where it will most likely become hereditary. God just props up the machina infernal.

11. He acts as if this is something NEW!
The religious right was welcomed into the Republican party during the Reagan years. This is nothing new--we're just seeing one of the results.
