1. The DU banner in Seattle

Everythingsxen and Aristus are holding it; AuntJen took the picture while I held her coffee. (AuntJen made that banner, too--check out the cool Deco-esque lettering!)

7. You can recognize the more recent arrivals by the few umbrellas
in the crowd. Most of us longer term residents have learned to ignore the rain and/or wear jackets with hoods available as needed. That said, it was a great crowd on a cold rainy day. Kids being pulled along in little red wagons, older folks with walkers, the usual kids in black, blue collar folks from everywhere -- a wonderful cross section of the best of America (no jewel-bedecked members of the uberclass).

8. Eh, I'm a wuss
I use an umbrella. I got soaked through anyway.

Xen got the wettest of all of us, I think! He didn't even have a jacket.

10. Not a wuss, just impractical.

Umbrellas seem to be more trouble than they are worth, and for the most part Seattle's rains are gentle, unpredictable, and not too cold. No wonder REI got its start here, with it's layered approach to wearables and all-weather gear. Next time I'll look harder for a DU banner and say hello. I was near the front (behind the NION globe) and never saw the DU banner -- too many people! A great event, especially considering the weather.

Check it out next time there's something scheduled! :hi:

13. I agree about the umbrellas
I used to use one but now days I just have a jacket with a hood. It's just easier and I get just as wet with or without the umbrella.

12. Wow
I'm very amazed at the dedication of all the people there in the rain! They could risk getting sick to miss work. Truly awesome!
