I pay very little attention to things like the Schiavo case, Scott Peterson, Michael Johnson and this other tabloid stuff, although the Schiavo case has been in the news recently, and the AP article is about this. I really know little about the case - although I know they want to remove her feeding tube, and she is vegetative, and the Republicans think wheeling her vegetated body in front of Congress might help them win some more votes. If you are attacking social security and invading foreign countries, you have to throw some meat like this to your base once in a while I guess. Anyhow, I know little about this case. I watched some TV debate over whether she had said she wanted the tube removed, one person said she did, the other said she didn't. I don't know the facts - if they are all as the Republicans paint them I would probably agree with them, although I have a feeling that they haven't been completely fair, and her husband isn't pure evil, her parents pure angels, her chances of running around again excellent and so forth. I wish to stress I am concerned with bias here and not the Schiavo case in particular. I myself could go either way depending on the facts, which I know little of. My point is how some AP reporters are very biased, not the merits of the case. Anyhow I find this AP report very biased:
http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20050320/ap_on_go_co/schiavo_congress_5Headline: "Dems Block GOP Efforts in Schiavo Case"
{I see, the Democrats are trying to kill some person...sigh...the picture of Tom Harkin flies against this idea anyhow, the text should match the article at least}
House Republicans, seeing Congress as a last hope for brain-damaged Terri Schiavo, convened an extraordinary Palm Sunday session to pass legislation aimed at prolonging the Florida woman's life.
{I don't know where to start...this person decided to throw in that the Republicans life saving efforts were on "Palm Sunday"...Christ. I guess they do death penalty and war planning on Passover}
McCain was asked on ABC's "This Week" about a memo suggesting GOP lawmakers could use the case to appeal to Christian conservative voters.
"I think that the motivation of my colleagues is that we want to give this young woman's family a chance to care for her for as long as she lives," McCain said. "I don't think it's any more complicated than that."
{Great - quote from McCain's BS to the press, not the memo, which shows what the Republicans are actually thinking}
And so on and so forth. This AP reporter isn't even trying to hide their bias. Palm Sunday indeed. I'm writing to AP and condemning them for their bias. I hope you do the same. I don't even know much about this case, I might even agree she should have the tube if I knew more. It's too bad AP stories have no byline so I don't know who wrote this, I'm sure all their reporting is like this.
