How long till the Dem Senators figure out the proper Schiavo spin?
"Republicans are taking advantage of this tragedy for political gain. The courts are perfectly capable of resolving this sad situation without the help of the executive or legislative branch."

What are the odds we will never hear this simple and effective retort uttered by a Democratic representative?

Anyone else want to wager that our people will let the R's have a field day on this nonsense?

2. And
The legislature of Florida has seen fit to allow the courts to make the determination.

5. Not even the courts' involvement ...
This should - purely and simply - be a PRIVATE medical matter.

The Dems need to stop the GOP in its tracks before it digs an even deeper tunnel into people's bedrooms and hospital rooms.

8. How can it possibly be a private medical matter, if relatives disagree?

11. She's not a minor anymore.
Her parents would be irrelevant had the Republicans not decided to go bizarro world on this.

9. Yes, that is correct.
They want to make it about life though. In fact, it is about Government intrusion for petty politics. People need to call them out on this.

If they gave a shit about life, we wouldn't be in Iraq.

13. It's a matter of ALLOWING A NATURAL DEATH
Edited on Sun Mar-20-05 03:11 PM by StopThePendulum
It's just as immoral to keep a dying person alive by machine as it is to euthanize someone--no, they're not the same thing, except in the twisted minds of pro-life extremists. This is especially true when there's an ulterior motive, such as the control issues and/or money on the parents' part, and political gain on the part of Repukes.

7. That is almost exactly what Wexler, Frank, and some other Dems

said at their press conference today. CNN cut out of it early, and the other MSM outlets didn't show it at all.

10. I stand corrected.
Good to hear it. Too bad we couldn't find heavier hitters to make the points.

12. You do not "stand corrected".
As Janx is pointing out. Little of what Dems have to say about anything is reported by this media. And when it is, it is usually out of context. The Republicans are behaving like children in this tragedy. Which is why they will win. This country hates adults.

15. Most of the Senate Democratic Leadership is on a trip to the ME.
Edited on Sun Mar-20-05 03:15 PM by Pirate Smile
Yesterday, Harkin gave a little speech that was on Cspan. He said he was their representing the Senate Dems.

Everybody is gone.

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., departed Friday for a 10-day trip to the Middle East where he planned to get a first-hand look at American involvement in the region.

-snip-
Reid's office said he would travel with six other senators to the Middle East and "several emerging democracies." A Reid spokesman declined to say whether the delegation would venture into Iraq.

Other senators on the trip include: Richard Durbin, D-Ill., Robert Bennett, R-Utah, Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., Patty Murray, D-Wash., Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., and Ken Salazar, D-Colo.

14. Several FL Dems made good points on CSPAN earlier
Edited on Sun Mar-20-05 03:13 PM by ultraist
One Rep stated how Congress was violating the Constitution, seperation of powers, by trumping the courts.

Others stated that the government has no right stepping into people's hospital rooms.

They also pointed out the Medicaid cuts and how hypocritical this is. One stated that the Repukes hold up sanctity of marriage but are disrespecting it in this case. They made other pertinent points.

The Repukes claim that Terri is not in a persistant vegetative state but that she is responsive. They are playing up the ADA slant and twisting the fact that they are abusing this profoundly disabled woman's rights and denying her wishes.

The fact is, they are operating out of their wish to curtail our rights and inject religious beliefs into our legislation.

17. what does the republican bill cost and who pays?
They seem to require additional experts, tests, legal challenges, etc., beyond what states already require. Who pays? Start putting the cost to every thing that they do - compared to what is already occuring (eg this is duplication of efforts already required by states.)
