Two years ago today . . .
I wrote my RW mother, and I told her that I opposed the war. I remember telling her that I feared my son would be of draft age before our troops were even in a position to withdraw. She thought I was crazy.

My computer crashed since then, and I lost all of the correspondence I sent about the war. I did write a poem or two. I wished I had the missives that I had written.

I'd be interested to read what others were writing friends and family (or letters to the editor) two years ago today.

8. I'm sorry for that.
It is my personal missive to keep DU free of propaganda the rightwing is spewing to keep us from talking about the war protests and vigils.

My apologies for not kicking your thread earlier.

2. My family and friends get a lot of news and petitions from me
I think. Maybe they're blocking me by now.

Has your mother revised her opinion about the war yet?

4. Sadly . . .
No. I often wish I had the letters that I had written two years ago, as I predicted much of what unfolded (including no WMDs). I wonder how many here had a clue that there were no WMDs prior to the war.

Thanks for sharing--I hope some of your email is still getting through to family and friends.

3. I wish I still had them
I remember telling them all the things I believe would happen and all have except for one and that's still a real possibility.

I told them we will get rid of Saddam and his regime. I told them we didn't have the troop strength. I told them the military isn't trained to be occupiers. I told them this will create more terrorists. I told them scores of innocents will be caught in the middle. I told them civil war was a strong possibility. I told them this will destabilize the region.

The civil war hasn't happened...yet.

6. I realize I didn't clarify
I had emails that I didn't keep. My family knows how I feel and some agree to an extent. Fortunately, I still have good relationships with them even though we disagree a lot on most issues.

9. Ah--glad your friends
are still around and that you only lost the email letters.

I regret that I don't have the email letters I sent in the run up to the war. However, I really regret having lost friends over my stance.

7. Most of us on DU
knew there were no weapons of mass destruction before the invasion. I knew it as one knows the sun sets in the evening. It wasn't because I was unusually wise. I had learned by then, as most of us on this board had, that the corporate media lies for this administration. So I ignored them, and watched Democracy Now and read websites that actually featured anti-war authors. It was obvious to any thinking individual what was going on. The scariest part was that SO MANY Americans, the vast majority, were not thinking and were not well informed. I have no problem saying I told you so, and I think more of us should say it. The average American seems to have learned nothing from this tragedy.
