Report on Meetings with Florida legislature...
This past Monday and Tuesday I went to Tallahassee with a group of other women to do some citizen lobbying. We are members of a group called the Florida Women Consortium. This is an umbrella organization for many progressive womens organizations. Anyway, the Speaker of the Florida House has said that he will agree to allow an up or down vote on the ERA to come before the house if all 16 GOP members of the Florida House co-sponsor the proposed ERA bill currently filed.

Well, folks we got 2 GOP female legislators to agree! Not a complete win but I remember that St. Monica prayed for 28 years for her son to convert (St. Augustine). So we keep plugging away. Many of the women said that they felt the ERA was unecessary because of all the non-discrimination laws passed. Okay, that's fair but it is the same argument that was used before the Civil Rights Act was passed back inthe 1960s.

Folks, all we need is 3 more states, Florida being one of them. If you live in a Legislative District with a GOP woman, urge her to co-sponsor this bill and vote for it.

Thanks!
