March 19 -- the two-year anniversary of a lie
Everything about this war has been a lie:

http://www.pnionline.com/dnblog/attytood/archives/001598.html

You may have forgotten, but this post looks back on the actual start of the war on March 19, the "decapitation strike" on Saddam's "bunker" at Dora Farm.

Except there was no bunker, just a food pantry. And there was no Saddam, nor his sons, But a civilian was killed, and 14 others, including a young girl, were wounded.

It was one of 50 strikes at Iraq leadership targets. The U.S. went ZERO-for-50. Many civilians were killed.

1. Yes, and look what we've done
The Dogs Of War

The dogs of war were howling back then
Sound born on a foul smelling wind
Iraqi bodies rotting in the sand---
Our boys sent to die in a faraway land
Were they asked to fight in a noble cause?
Voices choked with blood their unspoken words

“We did not know, we did not know
They only said that we must go
And bands played and flags did wave
And it was all so fine and we felt so brave”

Some warning voices were in the air
Said oil was the reason we were going there
And that forged in steel was a battle plan
Which had brewed for months by certain men
Who said we had to rid the world of the evil one
(Though he hadn’t come here to bomb our land
So a lot of us soldiers didn’t understand)

But they still sent us off with a big brass band
Where we soaked with our blood that foreign sand
To finally come home to this special place
To be held eternal in earth’s embrace
‘neath the green, green grass of our new home
Just us and the worms in this quiet tomb

You see we did not know---we did not know
They only said that we must go
And there were parades and flags did wave
And it was all so fine and we felt so brave.

3. I am. I'm hoping that my family can come
I have to be careful when taking out my little boy. He has respiratory problems and Charlotte's air is filthy - but our repub major just got us a brand new basketball stadium so I should be grateful, right?

Sigh. Sorry about the tangent.

I am going to a vigil in Charlotte, NC.
