To all lurking bush voters:
If you are between the ages of 18 and 35, and have not already served in the military, what are you waiting for?

You voted for bush. Your vote for him said his pre-emptive war on Iraq was okey-dokey with you. You guys LOVE it, you wave flags and put magnetic ribbons on your cars and think it's great.

So why don't you just amble on down to your local recruiting station (try the Army or Marines--they are the ones most in need of warm bodies--er, I mean recruits) and put your money where your mouth is and get yourself some combat boots and a rucksack.

Besides, y'all are always into posing for pictures with your guns. Why not let Uncle Sugar issue you one?

All four branches are hurting for recruits. If you voted for the man, you voted for his war. If you voted for his war, you better go fight it.

Female bush voters: no exceptions for you. All four branches need recruits, male or female.

I would like to direct you to the following websites:

Army: http://www.army.mil/

Air Force: http://www.af.mil/

Navy: http://www.navy.mil/

Marines: http://www.usmc.mil/

Remember, the Army and Marines are most in need of recruits. If you go Army, be sure to try to be in the infantry. Good stuff, there.

Go fight bush's war!

174. Dateline Iraq
DATELINE IRAQ

The Man landed on the Lincoln
A million miles from any shore
But they’d turned the ship around
What did they do that for
When it was only thirty miles from port?
Well, it made one terrific photo-op!
chorus
“We don’t feel like heroes any more*
We can’t help but think of Black Hawk Down
The President he says to “bring ‘em on”
But this is deadly violent Baghdad town
It’s no Crawford Texas and it’s not Washington”
And they don’t feel like heroes anymore.

Sgt. Dewitt dazed disbelieving**
Sat on his bed and stared
At the end of his arms
Where his hands had disappeared
And in the meantime and between time
Back at the ranch when not out collecting loot
Dubya was trying on his exercising suit.

To talk the talk don’t make the walk
You can strut and chortle a bully song
Secure at home safely say, “bring ‘em on”
But if you don’t walk the walk
Then that stuff is just a crock
And what are they being killed and wounded for
Bush and Cheney’s Halliburton war?

“We’re outnumbered and exhausted**
We’re being killed and wounded every day”
Rummy says no to adding troops
Wish that cabal was in this stinking fray
Told they’d be shining knights
Loved and honored by the people of Iraq
All you arm chair generals and Rumsfeld
Would you care to take that statement back?

“We don’t feel like heroes anymore
We can’t help but think of Black Hawk down”
The President says “bring ‘em on”
But this is deadly Baghdad town
It’s no Crawford, Texas, it’s not Washington
And they don’t feel like heroes anymore

178. Yeah, as we settle down in our easy chair!
AND NOW FOR THE EVENING NEWS

Hup, two, three four

Hup, two three four

What in hell are we waiting for

Left, right… left…left…left

I had a good home and I left

Chorus

Yes, “Johnny got his gun”

Has the enemy on the run

Flags wave, cheers fill the air

(as we settle down in our easy chair)

While in that hell in the desert heat

One hundred and ten Fahrenheit

“Sarge, on the roof, two behind the wall

(keep that sphincter muscle tight)

Report from Corporal Richardson

Guys up all fuckin’ night long

Seein’ the pictures in their head

Bloated bodies of the dead.

Ah jeez! That little kid

She musta been hiding behind the door

When I threw the grenade into the room

Goddamn this stupid fuckin’ war.

Yes, Johnny got his gun

Has the enemy on the run

Flags wave, cheers fill the air

(as we settle down in our easy chair)

3. If "you don't like it you can leave" applies...
then doesn't "If you like it you can fight" also apply?

If a chickenhawk is your role model, then a chickenhawk you will be.

5. Well said.

The sad thing is, most of the people I addressed that to will NOT get up off their asses and join the military. It's ok for them to vote for it, it's ok for other people to fight it, but they can't be bothered.

28. They can't be bothered to even think for themselves...
It's all about filtering of information and acceptance. The republicans feel that if they can pound more information into the population's brain than the Democrats then they will win. There's not a whole lot of evidence to disput that actually.

And acceptance is based on the fact that the voter's peer group will chastize them for thinking outside of the consensus of the group (usually dictated by one person). Fear of alienation can allow a person to convince themselves of anything.

So expecting people to think any further than what is right in front of them is expecting too much. The United States public education system is not set up to allow critical thinking. That's why funding is based on test scores. If there is an answer in front of you then that MUST be the right answer.

That's the problem. In a recent WaPo poll, 70% of people have lost faith in the Iraq war, but yet they voted for Bush. Why? Because Bush was in front of them more on their television and in their community. Their fear of being alienated out weighed their desire for the truth.

Why would they go and fight a war that seems to be constantly ending?

Why would they go fight a war when the threat is all around them right here at home?

Why would they go to Iraq when the real enemies are American Liberals?

Joining the army leaves one less person to support the troops. Don't you see? lol

Edited on Thu Mar-17-05 08:21 PM by tnlefty
it was much higher than 35. I was thinking armchair warriors up to like 80 or so. I know that it seems harsh, but I know quite a few older folks who thought all of this is great just as long as their grandkids won't be there. The children and grandchildren of others seemed fine as long as they were just sitting in their armchairs soaking up Faux News. If ya know what I mean.

can join the military at 17 with parental permission, which any proud FReeper parent should be overjoyed to grant. I don't understand why the ground troops are stretched thin when the recruiters' offices should be overflowing. <sarcasm now off>

Edited on Thu Mar-17-05 08:26 PM by Robeson
...exactly that. In fact, if they ever start a draft again, Republicans should be the ones drafted. They wanted the war. They support it. They should fight it. It was a war that was not forced on the U.S. It was a war of aggression, and a war of choice. I choose not to support it. I choose not to fight. Those who do, should be the ones to take it face on.

A higher percentage of African Americans are serving in the armed forces over whites. I think that should be changed to represent true racial demographics.

66. I'm a college student
and took the time to go vote. Since I'm in a white suburb area mostly it only took me a few minute's to go in and cast my vote. I went right after class was over. Even if I lived in a liberal area and knew Kerry would've gotten a good mount of votes I still would've went because you never know. One vote could've made a difference. That's why I always go vote.

41. Not at all. I commend you. You are going over there so that....
...others who do not believe in unprovoked wars of aggression, want have to live the rest of their lives knowing that they may have the bloodstains of innocent people on their hands. You are saving someone from getting killed themselves, who doesn't believe in breaking in the homes and lands of others, without provocation. You may be relieving an enlisted soldier, who was due to leave, but was forced to remain in the armed forces by this President, longer than they signed up to, or were told.

Just watch you top-notch, because remember, its their land, and they don't want you there....

The military has more volunteers than they can handle! Why, they're turning people away!

And furthermore, a draft would seriously compromise the country's security!

Air Force 1-800-4-AF-USAF

Army 1-800-USA-ARMY

Marine Corps 1-800-MARINES

Navy 1-800-USA-NAVY

I put these numbers on business card, and whenever I travel on Metro Trains, Planes, Buses, Amtrak...and those smart-aleck YOUNG reTHUGlicans are spewing their bush* adoration, and pro-war crap....I hand them the card...and TALK REAL LOUD so everyone can hear: STAND UP like a man and help OUR country...we have TWO WARS going on and IT's YOUR Patriotic Duty to join...blah blah....usually, a couple other Veterans will join in....

try to get their name/phone number so you can turn it over to a recruiter, who will NEVER leave them alone (nice sign, can I have your phone number? I know a guy who can help you get a GREAT career)....I did that to TWO idiots and the recruiters are still buzzing around their homes, and following them everywhere....I told the recruiters what GREAT military these young men would be....with a 'little' encouragement...

104. So you read the rules.
You voted for bush in November.

But you are on a website for Democrats.

Again, why?

Why did you vote for bush if you don't support his social agenda, and don't support the religious right that CONTROL him?

There ARE third parties on the ticket, you know.

If you voted for bush in November, you are part of the reason we are in the mess we are in now. I have the feeling you also voted for him in 2000. Which means you are part of the mess we dealt with from 2000 to 2004.

The people on this website have been FIGHTING that man and his messees (that affect us all) all this time. So you just wanted to what? Come here and play pattycake?

You don't like a lot of what Mr.bush does and stands for. You couldn't vote for Kerry just to vote against Mr.bush, so you voted FOR bush rather than someone else? You picked Mr.bush as the best one to vote for rather than voting 3rd party or not voting at all? Once more, you thought it was best to give Mr.bush your vote rather than not voting at all or voting for someone just to vote against him?

Come back to the Active Duty Army Nurse Corps - they will welcome you with open arms and added benefits after your service. The military is always in need of quality medical personal. That would IMO be an honorable duty (yes, I'm sincere) duty for someone who believes that The Bush Administration is leading this country down the right path.

96. All you Bush Administration loving young women ...
Best advice if you wish to be close to true COMBAT: Sign up for the Military Police within the Army. If you don't land up in a prison environment, the chances are decent that you too can patrol Baghdad's streets just like the poor bloody Infantry.

Think twice about joining the USMC if you want to be a part of "the action" ... for they keep women segregated especially during basic training and THEIR motto for women is (ready for this?) = "Free a man to fight." :wtf:

Nope those of you who honor Ann Coulter and Phillis Shaffly, by all means "give it your all" because heaven forbid you act true to your feminine gender, i.e., a sissy or girlie. Plus we promise that we won't blackmail you in the future by threatening to tell your son's friends, "Yo! Your Momma wore combat boots." <fingers are crossed ... shhh!>

Yes women Bush supporting patriots! Those damn democratic elitist commie liberals don't realize that we're winning the war in Iraq ... those of you who support GW Bush need to be part of the action. Make your fellow republican's proud and sign up for duty in Iraq TODAY.

I'd join you, but you see, I've already served my country in the US Army and now I'm just another damn baby boomer waiting to use up YOUR social security. Besides I voted for Kerry and do NOT support the Iraqi invasion or continued occupation.

But YOU do support the blessed Bush Administration. Therefore, God's selected Dear Leader wants you to perform your patriotic duty by ENLISTING NOW! :hi:

114. You mean some Bush voters aren't signed up?
Wow, gosh, I can't believe that. I mean, if I was a Bush voter that would have been the first thing I'd have done. I mean, it's the RIGHT thing to do. How the heck are we gonna win any of his wars if his own supporters don't even want to fight them?

Anyone who voted for Bush needs to show their support, now more than ever. He NEEDS you. And since he has so many loyal supporters, why is the military having so much trouble meeting its recruting goals? That is NO way to support your president. If you voted for the man, get out there and support him in a meaningful way. How could you vote for a man, and then expect other people to go fight the wars YOU voted for? That makes no sense.

Support YOUR president - it's the right thing to do. It's your patriotic DUTY even. He's not my president, I don't support him or his wars, and I don't intend to, but anyone who voted for him should be on the front lines.

123. Great post, BB!
Myself, I have no patience left for these assholes...
Nowadays ya can't even work unless you figure some way of shutting down all judgement and emotion, cuz you go out there and you're surrounded by these creeping idiots, who know NOTHING of reality... you have to work side by side with these disgusting soulless maggots... they're the majority now...
It's like living in Dawn of the Dead, that's what I think.
What does the Butch Admin have to do to get these fucking assholes to notice that it is PURE EVIL with candy sprinkles on top?

128. I think fightingfalcon was a high school student. The "Fighting Falcons"
Edited on Fri Mar-18-05 07:12 AM by RubyCat
is probably the name of the high school's football team. He didn't vote because he's underage. The business about how he didn't vote because he had to cram for a test on election day was just bs.

It's the tragic case of another misled youth. If he wants to join the military, then let him go. He'll have to learn the hard way.

Another young republican -- it reminds me of a Simpsons Halloween special where Homer Simpson and his family ring the door of Mr. Burn's mansion. Mr. Burn's forgets to let go of the intercom button and says "Ahh, fresh victims for my evergrowing army of the undead."

121. why exclude those who have already served?
They can always re-enlist. Who would be better than an experienced, already trained soldier. Also, I do not know about the age restrictions. I have a former co-worker who is either in his 50s or late 40s, about two years away from retiring from the National Guard and he recently got called up to Iraq. So Bush voters in their 40s might be able to re-enlist if they have already served.

134. The ones who have already served always use that as an excuse
and there are tons who have never spent a day in basic training, so I thought I'd just speak to them.

But you are right--they can certainly re-enlist. Uncle Sugah would be more than happy to have most of them back!

THAT would be news. Actually they would probably go in as officers. And truth be told, they really wouldn't see any hard duty, BUT it would definitely be a change from their lives as they are now, and it would DEFINITELY cause people to sit up and pay attention! Can you imagine????

But imagine all you want, never gonna happen.

137. It bothers me a little bit
because everyone here is always bitching about how FR never wants to actually debate and bans any differing opinion. We do it too. I know that it always results in a flame war, but it seems so facist to me to just delete anything that we don't agree with. I know that rules are rules and the owners of the website can do anything they want, just my 2 cents.

A lot of us do that all the time. DU is the place where we can talk to EACH other without the distraction of freepers in here.

the problem is not with a difference of opinion. The problem is with the fact that these people are ignorant. If we opened the board up you would spend half your time educating people on very basic issues. That gets old very fast.

ensures that traffic is running safely etc.) came up to me the other day and was going on about his worries on the war and the veterans not getting the benefits they need...and then ended with, "They're not taking my kids." Why? He supported this insane administration in the first place. He should help them see their duties through. It's this kind of, it's okay if it's not me or mine mentality that really chaps me.

152. The little Nixon Republicans I knew in the 60's and 70's were all cowards.
Every single one followed the Cheney path to public service long before any of us knew about a DICK Cheney. Their children are also cowards. They supported the war in Vietnam and railed against protesters. Today they love Bush.

For some reason (character defect)I wanted a military career but was willing to fore-go what I knew was an immoral war. As things worked out I never had to serve, and my Democratic friends all went to Vietnam. On return these real "Democrat" friends promised to break my legs if I continued on my path. I listened to John Kerry when he returned and spoke in congressional hearings. I also listened to my ROTC instructors who while being pro Army were strongly opposed to the war in Vietnam.

I have kept up with some of these Republican self styled neocon loving "Morans" over the years and intend to really piss them off at the next class reunion, especially now that we have adult children.

I think it's cowardly to hide behind weapons or cheap talk. I think these jokers are actually less brave than the "thinkers" that they attack here at home. In fact, I think it is an overcompensation for their feelings of insecurity that leads them down the chickenhawk path. Just one man's humble opinion - I could be wrong (but I don't think so)...

It's the nature of these people. Look at all the war mongering, war-profiteering Republicans. A flock of chickenhawks all. When it was their turn to serve, they had other priorities. And now they have the powe, they are clueless about the application.

I never served either. But then, I've never been a proponent for war.
