25. WOW!
Too bad our fellow 'Murikans aren't nearly as smart as the rest of the world! It's nice to see that I'm not alone in thinking of 9/11 as Smirk's Reichstag Fire. The parallels are so incredibly eerie, it gives me chills, because the Reichstag Fire was the excuse Hitler used to begin his gradual but systematic dismantling of rights and civil liberties, and to stigmatize, dehumanize, persecute, jail, and murder all manner of groups that were to "blame" for the tragedy. And every time anyone expressed any doubt, or unease, he would wave the banner of the Reichstag Fire, and once again whip everyone into a frenzy. It worked every fucking time, because, frankly, people are basically trained animals. Europe's been through this shit before and they have a better idea of what's happening and what's going to happen than we do, because Americans are way too fucking damn dumb when it comes to history, including American history.

50. Commies blamed for Reichstag fire

I was at an event not too long ago where a speaker mentioned that even as the Reichstag was burning, one of Hitler's henchmen (I think it was the propaganda minister Goebbels) was on the scene loudly proclaiming to the press and everyone within earshot that they knew the commies were responsible for setting the fire. Compare that to the WTC attacks on Sep 11th. As they show that almost continuous endless loop of the plane crashing into the WTC and the collapse of the towers, we are treated to a non-stop commentary by the talking heads about Osama bin Laden and al Quaida being responsible.

I was suspicious too from the moment I turned on the TV that morning and saw how they were repeating the video clips of the disaster continuously throughout the day and at the same time had the talking heads onside to conveniently assign the blame to Osama and al Quaida. I thought to myself that the whole thing smacked of a giant propaganda exercise out of a George Orwell novel.

26. Creepy doesn't even begin to describe it,
especially to those of us who've studied Germany in the 30's, the Holocaust and WWII at length! Never, ever, ever, EVER, did I think we'd be dealing with this kind of shit in this country. NEVER! And it frightens me beyond words, if people don't start waking up.......I don't even want to think about it!

On the other hand, when they finally do put us in the camps, maybe we could have a DU section and at least go down together!

15. bush is NOT hitler!
true, he does have
the same right-wing bent
the same philosophy toward supporting business
the same comfort with letting business supporters create legislation
the same zeal for throwing government contracts to key supporters and the party members
the same insistence on absolute loyalty
the same comfort with overturning elections
the same intolerance of dissent
the same hatred of liberals
the same hatred of atheists
the same drive for absolute secrecy
the same propaganda techniques
the same need to isolate himself from people who might object to his policies
the same lack of respect for the sovereignty of foreign nations
the same lust for war
the same lack of fiscal discipline
the same lack of respect for democratic institutions
the same eagerness to kill undesireables
and the same penchant for lying,
but after that the analogy pretty much breaks down....

as rigidly black and white
The same inability to see things from any other point of view but his own
The same way of expressing support, concern, and understanding of working people and the middle class, while then turning around and stabbing them in the back
The same strong sense of propagandistic manipulation
The same way of doing anything and stopping at nothing to get what he wants, no matter what has to be done and no matter who it's against
The same total lack of remorse at any pain and suffering he's caused

55. My exact thought!
When I turned on the t.v. and saw the 2nd plane hit, I had exactly the same thought! Who had the most to gain from this tragedy? As for the similarities to Hitler's Reichstagt (sp) fire, I only heard about that after 9-11. Will we ever, ever truly know what happened on that awful day in September?

36. and then there are those that think he's the antichrist...
If you run a search on "bush antichrist" in google - you pull up 32,600 sites.

A ton of these sites are by ultra - religious people - who maintain that Bush IS the anti-christ. I didn't realize he was so unpopular amongst some of them.

Check this out:
http://www.covenantnews.com/baldwin020412.htm
"I do believe that Bush possesses more deceptive qualities than Clinton did and, therefore, is more dangerous. I also now understand more clearly how even "the elect" can be deceived. Bush' s acceptance by the overwhelming majority of Christian people proves the country is ready for the antichrist, whoever he is."

http://www.hogueprophecy.com/archiv32.htm
"Is G. W. Bush now Antichrist Candidate Number One?
The second largest wave of emails since the war in Iraq asks me to consider the American president the prime candidate for Nostradamus fearsome Mabus after he trounced Saddam Hussein. The reasons provided to me by fans are many and detailed. I will account the gist of them here for you all in a brief summary.

In your many letters the argument for Bush being Mabus relies heavily on the American president’s predilection for unilateralist action. You think an Antichrist should have disrespect for international law; that he will ignore diplomacy and rush into preemptive invasion of sovereign nations to overthrow their regimes. To many of you, President Bush is nearly as disparaging and dismissive of the United Nations as the Second Antichrist (Hitler) was for the UN’s predecessor, the League of Nations. Many of you compare Bush to Hitler because in your view he shares the same penchant for speaking in simplistic absolutes. He sees himself in messianic terms as a savior, force-feeding his political world view on others by repetitive use of “the big lie.” In other words, he propagates a lie so many times that people begin to believe it, such as Saddam being an imminent because he is aiming a vast array of weapons of mass destruction at the US. Like Hitler, many of you think Bush followed his big lie with acts of military aggression unsubstantiated by objective evidence for a just cause.

I was on vacation in the Canadian Rockies, absolutley georgeous. We flew into and out of Calgary. Calgary surprised us, it is very urban and yet it is a very clean, livable, fun place (took a luge ride at the Olympic training facility).

Coming back to New York was a little depressing, the rat race got to me for a while.
