Spin and the Spin Doctors
This is from my latest post on WatchingTheWatchers.org. Here's a taste:

"Anyone who is not shocked by quantum theory has not understood it."–Niels Bohr (1885-1962), Danish physicist

"If you aren't completely appalled you haven't been paying attention."–Anonymous

Quantum mechanics – the theory that describes the wavelike nature of particles at the atomic level – is one of those long standing achievements of the human mind. The Bohr quote above and Einstein's assertion that "God does not play dice with the universe", a response to the Copenhagen interpretation and Born's postulate, are two of the most famous takes on the quantum theory.

For the past week or so, I've been pondering something that is borderline ludicrous: Could it be that the Republican noise machine is a fully fledged quantum mechanical system? I know, I know. Just hear me out.

There is also a good number of links to satisfy the physics nerd in all of us.

4. Those were the days.
I seem to remember that the terms "spin" and "spin doctor" (as it related to press management) was introduced during the Nixon administration. I'm not sure where I read this, but I think it's from the essay at the beginning of Mark Crispin Miller's The Bush Dyslexicon.
