DNC: 133,700 Sign Petition In Less than 24 Hours to stop Power Grab
Go sign, and then donate. If we want change, we have to provide a good amount of the financial resources.

133,700 Sign Petition In Less than 24 Hours to Stop "Naked, Partisan, Power Grab"
Washington, DC – "In order to ram through Bush's extreme judicial nominees, Washington Republicans are threatening to eliminate a long-standing Senate rule that allows every member of the Senate a chance to address the concerns of their constituents by speaking on the Senate floor.

In response to this threat, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) emailed a petition to grassroots activists yesterday evening. The response was overwhelming. In less than 24 hours, 133,700 people signed the petition, signaling the importance of this issue for all Americans.

"This is not about partisan politics, this is about democracy," said Governor Howard Dean, DNC Chairman. "Washington Republicans want to give George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and their cronies on Capitol Hill unprecedented power by taking away the rights of U.S. Senators to represent their constituents. The American people will not allow Washington Republicans to break down the separation of powers with this naked, partisan, power grab."

2. Most don't mind.
If you don't want to send it, don't. I sent it to a couple of mailing list, but most get the mailing anyway.

As long as you signed.

3. oh, I didn't, and I realize that some of my friends...
...would *probably* appreciate the heads-up, but honestly-- I get over a dozen political spam messages a day (in the midst of SEVERAL dozen other spams), so I'm sensitive to the issue. You know, back in the early days of the Dean campaign when I started getting emails from Joe Trippi (after donating to Dean), I used to read them. Now I get so many, I never read ANY of them.

5. Spam is kind of like junk mail
I never read it but the fact that I get it seems to acknowledge that I exist. And who knows, maybe one day I'll want to get a pallet load of Xanax.

7. I DON"T subscribe to them....
That's why they're spam-- they're unsolicited e-mails, digital junk mail. I used to reply to the unsubscribe address that some spam messages offer, but more often than not that simply confirms your address and acknowledges receipt of email at that address. Besides, doing so requires that they be opened, and I receive FAR too many spams a day to open them. I just delete 'em.

11. Exactly
Good grief -- why come HERE and complain about it, as if one has no power over it?

If there's something he's not reading or doesn't find worthwhile anymore, cut 'em loose. Seems fairly simple and straightforward to me. I just unsubbed from a couple myself.
