I think Kerry's ANWR amendment is going to fail
and I think that every single newspaper should have that as the headline: Republicans allow drilling in Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge.

The joyful aggressiveness of the repubs simply astounds me. They joyfully, happily, get up and talk about drilling in Alaska, which at least 60% of Americans are against. Is this just hubris? Do they not understand that Americans do love their wilderness? And most importantly, will they pay by losing the house or senate in '06?

1. I am very against ANWR
but I don't think it will be an important NATIONAL issue. Hopefully, it will have some impact on state elections. For example, Norm (the worm) Coleman of MN said he'd vote against it. I'm sure this hand-picked Dem turned Repub would vote for ANWR if he didn't think his MN consituents would make him pay a price politically for that vote.

3. I guess you are for ANWR
(Artic National Wildlife Refuge), but against drilling there.

It is clear the vote will be close.

2. It looks like Normie Coleman got the message
he said he's voting no on drilling....he's got to know that he's political roadkill in Minnesota if he votes to authorize drilling....

wonder how come so few other repubs got the message?

4. I Think It's Going To Pass
In the last hour, both Salazar and Oregon's Smith said they're voting YES - so if you add them to the 44 Dems and 4 Repubs who voted against ANWR drilling the last time it came up (does that include Coleman?) and Obama, that adds up to 51, which would stop any drilling.

Keep calling, and keep the faith.

6. Some of the 44 Dems that voted for it last time...
aren't here anymore. So, time to recalculate your math.

8. Once again
many more Dems are on the side of good than Repubs. Of course, I appreciate Repub votes but without the Dem party (with all its faults), this country will definitely go down the drain. At least now we have a sliver of hope.

10. I was right - with traitor Dems, we will
never win. All three of those senators needs to hear from all 60,000 members of DU - I told them each that I would fund, with every penny I could afford, any primary challenger they may have.

I am so disgusted over this - and the worst part is the repubs CHEERED the vote.

11. But will people care?
Gas is at an insane price, and drilling in ANWR comes up...again. 51% of America is too damn stupid to see past Bush's previous horseshit, and now, if gas prices come down 3 cents, that same populous will link the passing of the drilling to their gas break. They'll stop caring about wilderness when it costs $2.00 more to fill their Excursions and Expeditions. I can almost hear the Yukon and Denali drivers muttering, "eh, fuck those animals in Alaska anyway" as they fill up.

12. I agree...
I thought it more than a coincidence that gasoline prices reached record highs the same week as the ANWR vote.

And you're right; gas will come down a little and the SUV and Hummer drivers will see that the GOP Congress got the price of gas down a few cents after the "rational and logical" opening of ANWR to drilling.

13. Republicans Vote for Drilling in Alaskan National Wildlife
That's what the headline should read.
