1. World Bank shows US GDP is around $12 trillion. World GDP $33 trillion
So with about 1/3rd of the world's economy, I'd say the brinksmanship by the Chinese communists puts them on a par with North Korea as idiots of the universe contestants.

They got Hong Kong back without firing a shot; it just took patience. Otherwise they kill their Olympics which is upcoming too.

What are the Red Chinese smoking ?

One thing you need to know about the Chinese is that they take the long view. A thousand years ago is still recent enough to be called recent. They do nothing suddenly. They are patient.

Consider how tying the yuan to the dollar has allowed them to continue looting industry from the US without sacrificing the US market (so far) despite currency fluctuations that are causing the decline of the almighty buck against all other currencies.

Another thing you need to know is that their own name for their country doesn't translate to Middle Kingdom quite as much as it does to Central Kingdom. They feel their place in the world is inevitable, and won't consider fighting a war to get there to be necessary.

I sincerely doubt they will either cash in theit t-bills or completely divest themselves of US currency or debt in the near future. It's likely to happen slowly, just like their looting of US industry has.

2. What would be the interest of China ?
The USA are its first client. But Taiwan should be disturbed because the US could be its loyal ally anymore.

3. Their economy
is linked to ours. Putting the hurt on our economy would trash their export market and be counter-productive.

Not that they wouldn't do it anyway. The chinese operate very differently than the west, when it comes to issues like these.
