Bastille Day is Monday. How will you celebrate?
Let's all support our French friends by patronizing French restaurants and shops in honor of Bastille Day which falls on Monday. The patriotism police from the cable stations have been mounting boycotts of French businesses and many of them are feeling the pinch.

If Junior had listened to the sage advice of Chirac we would not be in this calamitous situation. Good friends don't let friends start pre-emptive wars. At least the French tried, but they were dealing with a little American Napoleon who doesn't listen.

So Vive La France! Vive La Republique! Vive l'amitie franco-americaine! Vive la paix!

7. It doesn't have to be on Monday
It can be tomorrow, or Tuesday, or any other day. Be sure to tell the owner that you are a friend of France and friend of humanity.

8. I don't suppose
we could all get together and storm the castle? Oh well, Ashcroft probably wouldn't like it. I'll have to settle for some more French wine.

12. Love your graphic, Jack Rabbit!
I have a framed poster from the Mondale-Ferraro campaign with Ferraro as Liberty and Mondale as the dude holding the musket. It is in my den, in the most honored of places, earning its standing as a collector's item. I worked my little arse off on their campaign and have fond memories thereof....

Vive la France, vive Mondale, vive Ferraro. Et vive le Democratic Underground.!

10. We'll head down to the Paris Hotel/Casino
on the Vegas strip. The food there is actually quite good (if not on the level of Le Cirque over at the Bellagio).

Tonite, we'll uncork a bottle of Mouton Cadet Bordeaux.

BTW - just this week, The Paris unfurled the French Flags. They had been taken down sometime during the early part of the illegal war. Pretty pathetic that they bowed to that idiotic pressure, but at least they've come to their senses. Maybe bushie's anti-feringer crap is becoming passe!

Vive La France!!

14. French movies, eh?
Edited on Sat Jul-12-03 09:58 PM by Isere
"The Swimmer" has just been released but I haven't seen it yet. It is in English...one of the concessions to the world economy a la "Indochine"... Charlotte Rampling gets good reviews.

If you want to go for real French, go see the Johnny Halliday-Jean Rochefort movie "The Man on the Train." We loved it, especially Jean Rochefort who is an all-time favorite. Actually, the best French movie in my opinion is Jean Rochefort in "The Hairdresser's Husband" It is lovely and anyone who hasn't seen it should rent the video immediately...

Oh, and another great choice is "L'Auberge Espagnole," a riotous and sweet look at the life of university students who go abroad for study. Anyone who has ever gone to school in a foreign country will be transported back into their youth....
.
Oh, the choices are legion. I love French cinema...for the most part.

"Camembert DE Normandie", no "Camembert FABRIQUÉ en Normandie". And with an "AOC" label.
