I believe you'll find the parallels to life under bushco to be frightening. And remember, these students were executed (beheaded!) for their resistance to Hitler's Reich.

it's short (and include the text of the Leaflets and other documents) but what's really fascinating is that it was written by the surviving sister of Sophie and Hans Scholl.

I knew NOTHING about this story before.

All ideal forms of government are utopias. A state cannot be constructed on a purely theoretical basis;
rather, it must grow and ripen in the way an individual human being matures. But we must not forget that at
the starting point of every civilization the state was already there in rudimentary form. The family is as old
as man himself, and out of this initial bond man, endowed with reason, created for himself a state founded
on justice, whose highest law was the common good. The state should exist as a parallel to the divine
order, and the highest of all utopias, *the civitas dei*, is the model which in the end it should approximate.

Here we will not pass judgment on the many possible forms of the state - democracy, constitutional
monarchy, and so on. But one matter needs to be brought out clearly and unambiguously. Every individual
human being has a claim to a useful and just state, a state which secures the freedom of the individual as
well as the good of the whole. For, according to God's will, man is intended to pursue his natural goal, his
earthly happiness, in self-reliance and self-chosen activity, freely and independently within the community
of life and work of the nation.

But our present "state" is the dictatorship of evil. "Oh, we've known that for a long time," I hear you object,
"and it isn't necessary to bring that to our attention again." But, I ask you, if you know that, why do you not
bestir yourselves, why do you allow these men who are in power to rob you step by step, openly and in
secret, of one domain of your rights after another, until one day nothing, nothing at all will be left but a
mechanized state system presided over by criminals and drunks? Is your spirit already so crushed by
abuse that you forget it is your right - or rather, your *moral duty* - to eliminate this system?

But if a man no longer can summon the strength to demand his right, then it is absolutely certain that he
will perish. We would deserve to be dispersed through the earth like dust before the wind if we do not
muster our powers at this late hour and finally find the courage which up to now we have lacked. Do not
hide your cowardice behind a cloak of expediency, for with every new day that you hesitate, failing to
oppose this offspring of Hell, your guilt, as in a parabolic curve, grows higher and higher."

A Call to All Americans!

The war is approaching its destined end. It has become a mathematical certainty that Bush is leading the United States into the abyss. Bush cannot win the war; he can only prolong it. The guilt of Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and their minions goes beyond all measure. Retribution comes closer and closer.

But what are the American people doing? They will not see and will not listen. Blindly they follow their seducers into ruin. "Whatever it takes!" is inscribed on their banner. "Mission accomplished," says Bush, but in the meantime the mission has already been lost.

Americans! Do you and your children want to suffer the same fate that befell the souls of Abu Ghraib? Do you want to be judged by the same standards as your tyrants? Are we to be forever a nation which is hated and rejected by all mankind? No. Dissociate yourselves from blind thuggery masquerading as patriotism. Prove by your deeds that you think otherwise. A new war of liberation must begin, and the better part of the nation will fight on our side. Cast off the cloak of indifference you have wrapped around you. Make the decision before it is too late. Do not believe the propaganda which has driven the fear of Islam into your bones. Do not believe that America's welfare is linked to perpetuating the lies of the "War on Terror" for good or ill. A criminal regime cannot achieve a just victory. Separate yourselves in time from everything connected with the machineries which would enslave you and dull your wits. In the aftermath a terrible but just judgement will be meted out to those who stayed in hiding, who were cowardly and hesitant.

Every word that comes from Bush's mouth is a lie. When he says peace, he means war, and when he blasphemously uses the name of the Almighty, he means the power of evil, the fallen angel, Satan. His mouth is the foul-smelling maw of Hell, and his might is at bottom accursed. True, we must conduct a struggle against the fraudulent terrorist state with rational means; but whoever today still doubts the reality, the existence of demonic powers, has failed by a wide margin to understand the metaphysical background of our struggle. Behind the concrete, the visible events, behind all objective, logical considerations, we find the irrational element: The struggle against the demon; against the servants of the Antichrist.

What can we learn from the outcome of this war - this war that never was a necessary or just war?

The wicked Bush doctrine must be shattered for all time. The radical right must never again be allowed to assume power. Only in large-scale cooperation among the nations of the world can the ground be prepared for mutual security. Every nation and each individual has a right to the goods of the whole world, and each the responsibility to be good stewards thereof.

"Freedom" and "democracy"! For four long years Bush and his cabal have manhandled, squeezed, twisted, and debased these two splendid American words to the point of nausea, as only dilettantes can, casting the highest values of a nation before swine. They have sufficiently demonstrated in their years of destruction of all material and intellectual freedom, of all moral substance among the American people, what they understand by freedom and democracy. The frightful bloodbath should open the eyes of even the stupidest American - it is a slaughter which they arranged in the name of bringing "freedom" and "democracy" throughout the Middle East, and which they daily start anew. The name of the United States is dishonored for all time if American youth does not finally rise, take revenge, and atone, smash its tormentors, and found a new republic based upon the dead republic's principals.

Americans! The world looks to us. As in 1776 it saw us shake off the yoke of tyranny, so in 2004 it looks to us to smash the fascist terror by the power of our just cause. Iraq is burning in the East. The dead of Fallujah implore us to take action.

Up, up, my people - let smoke and flame be our sign!

One of them famous, the 1982 Verhoeven one.

The special thing about the new one , is that it is set after the White Rose, with the protagonist (Sophie) being interrogated by the Nazis.

27. Two questions from Germany

1. Why isn't the fifth leaflet published?
2. I once did read the german originals and the english translations. And I became aware that a significant part of the english translation is forged. I started to check other sources on the net, but all the translations I could find did include the same mistake.

Here's a part of the original text in German:

"Die Arbeiterschaft muß durch einen vernünftigen Sozialismus aus ihrem Zustand niedrigster Sklaverei befreit werden. Das Truggebilde der autarken Wirtschaft muß in Europa verschwinden. Jedes Volk, jedes einzelne hat ein Recht auf die Güter der Welt!"

Here's the english translation that is available on the net:

This is one of the most disgusting things I could imagine: to silence them again and make them fit into the anti-communist coldwar rhetoric.
It't like killing them one more time.

I hope, it might just be a wrong version that is copied again and again on the net; but it sounds to me, as if it was forged intentionally and now people just copy and repeat it, without looking twice.

I'm not a translator at all, but just to give an impression:


they write:

The working class must be liberated from being slaves by the means of a reasonable socialism.

the forged translation goes:

The workers must be liberated from their condition of down trodden slavery under National Socialism.

they write:
Das Truggebilde der autarken Wirtschaft muß in Europa verschwinden.

the delusion of a self-sufficient economy must disappear in Europe

this is just to explain what a reasonable socialism means: that the economy has to serve the people.

the forged translation goes:
The illusory structure of autonomous national industry must disappear

This is exactly the opposite of what they write: By including the term "national", the reader has the impression, they would argue against a "state-owned or ruled" economy in favour of a "free-market" economy.

Maybe if you have any planes to include the fifth leaflet on your homepage, do me a favour and check the translation.

I don't know how disgusting people have to be, to intentionally misuse them for ideological purposes and propaganda.

greatly appreciate the info. as I said, I am just beginning research. these pages were an update and design upgrade to an existing posting. if I find they're incorrect, I'll make a change and/or add a footnote to the disputed translation.

and don't get me wrong: I didn't want to offend the people, who did publish the wrong translation(s) on their websites. I guess they simply used the translations that were available. Who would even think of translators, misusing them for propaganda-issues? I guess the translations were published in the USA during the cold war and to see socialism as the only alternative to fashism didn't fit into the "image", the cold warriors wanted to create.
