A question on bush's Soc Sec private accounts/bankruptcy
If bush's social security plan becomes law, would a person filing bankruptcy have to claim their "personal account" as an asset? Would creditors be able to claim the money in your account?

2. Only if it's invested in a private stock, right?
Even if that's the case, that's REALLY fucked up. If it's still in the usual gov funds, I don't think they can take it.

I'm not sure about this though.

3. Get real.
The minute you own an asset (hence Bushy's ownership society), it's up for grabs if you can't pay your bills. The thing about Social Security is that if you live long enough to collect, you will get a monthly benefit, no matter how destitute you are, because it doesn't belong to you until you get it.

4. retirements, trusts, rich people's money
all protected. I think they'd have to pass another law to take the pesonal retirement accounts, but they've passed laws to garnish social security, so I wouldn't put it past them.

5. Do they specify anything about SS in the new bankruptcy bill?
Or is this going to be a tag on when we are not looking, some late night session?

6. I don't think so
I've just read a couple of overviews on legal web sites. I haven't seen anything about SS. If it's like everything else, they'll wait ten years and concoct a reason. I'm becoming convinced they really won't rest until they've sucked every last nickel out of us and whereever we are when the bottom drops out is where we'll be huddled the rest of our lives.

8. I have written my congressman
to see if those funds will be protected from the new bankruptcy laws.

It might be worth it if you guys/gals to do the same. Ask everyone this question. Get the question out there.

7. Bush supports assisted suicide for the elderly.
He just didn't want his pro-life supporters to get upset with him. This plan will force the issue for the elderly when they find they are destitute with no safety net.
