Unions, U.S. Fight Over Union Audits

- U.S. labor union locals are being audited by teams of federal government inspectors in what officials say is part of a labor law enforcement campaign and union leaders charge is payback for opposing President Bush's reelection.

"We kind of looked at it as something of a shot across the bow of labor," said Bob Frase, executive assistant to the secretary-treasurer of the Paper, Allied-Industrial, Chemical and Energy Workers International Union.

"This administration is strongly dedicated to enforcing the law," said Labor Department spokeswoman Pamela Groover. "Employers and unions who abuse workers are going to feel the impact."

At a PACE local representing workers at two Houston-area refineries, the Labor Department auditors arrived in early January and stayed for two weeks, said David Taylor, secretary-treasurer of PACE local No. 4-227.

"They came in every day and stayed all day," Taylor said. "They said it was our first audit since 1983. My secretary's been here 25 years and she said she had never seen this before."

1. Nixon and Reagan abused their power in the same way
Typical. Reagan went after a lot of progressive non-profits and got tax-exempt status taken away for some. Bush has also been watching non-profits very closely. They are scared to step over the line and that had an effect on the last election.

2. First the NAACP and now labor
They're systematically going after us.

Absolutely no union is 100% perfect. Having been through a Department of Labor audit, I can tell you there is nothing good that can come of it. They won't even tell you that everything's ok. You only hear back if something's bad. We had to ask them for a letter saying everything was OK. They grudgingly agreed and this was when Robert Reich was Secretary of Labor.

3. Ask 5 high school kids who Sam Gompers was.
The response will break your heart, but explain much.

The strives of the labor movement, the sacrifices made by so many to win decent treatment, it is all taken for granted and therefore in danger of being lost to greedy bastards who think slavery is fine so long as it is called something else.

Yeah, we're really going to see them going after WalMart.

5. What Nixon was unable to do during wategate, the Imperials now do easily
Naturally, these laws ONLY APPLY to Imperial Enemies of the State.

Nixon tried this, and L. Patrick Grey III (I think that's what his name was) wouldn't do it. But that was Free America, a whole other nation than the one we live in today.

In Imperial Amerika, all resources of The State are directed towards Enemies of the Stae.

PARTY members and organizations, naturally, are above reproach and suspicion.
