we can get out if we are lucky from the new drilling. That is certainly worth bringing industry in to the wilderness.

7. This drives me nuts...
What fucking benefit will this provide for the United States at large? It will take years to develop the site, and, assuming the estimates are correct, we get a whole 11 months supply of oil at current demand levels(Whoohoo!!!). And most of it is supposed to be marked for export, isn't it?

11. "Drill baby, DRILL" kind of reminds you of "Burn baby, BURN"....
From the Enron tapes. When will it occur to them that there still isn't enough oil there, and that scheme will crash all around them as well?

I believe that Alaskan citizens stand to profit heartily from any drilling in ANWR.

23. Yes, we would benefit, but that doesn't mean we're all for it.
I read in the paper this morning that even our representative, Republican Don Young, who's a big supporter of drilling in ANWR, doesn't like the idea of attaching it to a budget bill. There's something so underhanded and sneaky about the whole thing, it's making even the republicans a little queasy.

24. What a joke.
Just more knee-jerk, Bushbotism. Funny thing is, the oil companies may not even want to commit the investment if the oil recovery estimates are correct. But they'd probably cheer if Bush throws a few billion to the industry just to show us they can drill there.

Reminds me of a guy who sets fire to his house, just to win an argument with his neighbor who bet him $5.00 that he didn't have the cajones to do it.

26. Yep you got it right
It's mostly just a case of the freepers wanting to do what the environmentalists and scientists don't want.

That's it in a nutshell: spite, and nothing else.

25. They think it will lower their gas prices.
They haven't caught on to the fact that when Bush says "we", he does not mean regular people. Freepers- you'll subsidize the drilling and then you'll pay whatever the market will bear for "our" natural resources.

30. Drilling will do no good in the long run. Will not lower prices.
This is a silly and shortsighted approach to energy policy. It's not a policy at all - it's simply "more of the same". How this can even be an issue at all is beyond me - it has to simply be an "in your face" effort to destroy some land to "shove it in the face" of environmentalists. Most of what the Bush administration does seems to demonstrate bravado and "in your face" policies -

...I wonder why these people feel so impotent?
