Great thing happened on the "Today Show" this morning....
Ringling Bros Circus had their clowns and a few other people there promoting their new tour. When the show came back from commercial, about 15 clowns were surrounding Katie Couric and the screen splits and shows Willard Scott in Washington DC, who is doing the weather. Katie says "Now we go to the biggest clown in Washington. You know who that is?" Then one of the Ringling clowns hollars very loud "The President!!!".

I was ROTFLMAO. Nothing was said about this, but I hope that clown still has a job!!!

4. Clowns originally come from prestigious beginnings.
They were able to tell the king truths that the court could not, because he put it in a humorous way.

Think Shakespeare's clowns.

12. No, I feared that I would have to rethink my opinion of them!
I never liked them, they were creepy, in your face, and the facepaint on them stunk. My direct experience with them was pretty much limited to childhood, back in the day when they'd shove all the kids in the front row at the circus. I didn't care for the costumes, and I didn't go for their humor. Of course, I like clownish comedy--the 3 Stooges were a big part of my childhood, and they were pretty violent, when I think back on them.

Wasn't that Gacy serial killer a clown? And those cheesy mystery shows on tv, like say, Columbo and Murder She Wrote, often seemed to use a "friendly" clown as the murderer...and it always seems that you hear of a child molester doing birthday parties dressed as a clown....

But hey, they say it takes one to know one, and that Today Show clown sure called it right!

32. You're not a lone
Clowns were always kinda creepy to me as well. I do have this little clown doll I love though. Something different about it. It had positive vibes and stuff. I guess a lot of love went into making it or something. :) So I keep it around.

7. There seems to be a lot of people who have a
fear of clowns. I've been thinking about it and I think that part of the trouble is that kids since some years back are exposed to clowns up close and personal. When I was growing up they were mostly afar, doing their strange bazaar stuff. But clowns are at kids birthday parties, people do clown ministry at hospitals and so on. Just a theory.

25. Patch Adams
There's a wonderful documentary called "Clownin' Kabul" that follows Patch and his troupe on a tour of Afghanistan in '02 as they cheer up sick and injured children. Never mind the kids, the ADULTS are mesmerized! I'm not a big fan of clowns myself but gosh, this is well worth watching. They do so much good. Keep Kleenex handy. I caught it a couple of times on Link TV and just discovered that copies can be ordered from Patch Adams' own site, Gesundheit Institute.

Scariest clown, too.

He still gives birthday greetings to 100 year olds and substitutes for Al Roker sometimes. They had a 25th Aniversery of being on the Today show this morning (Thursday).

38. I heard it, too
Was getting ready for work, and listening to the show. I Laughed Out Loud, as well. Katie immediately responded, it's Williard Scott!

I meant to post the same comments to DU, but work took precedence, and I forgot. Thanks lumberingbear.

FWIW - I've taken to listening to NBC in the morning since I'm boycotting CNN. My Repuke father still cannot understand that I don't watch CNN because it's the "Conservative News Network" - he still thinks it's "so liberal". I've talked to him three times since the November elections and twice I've had to hang up on him. (I always warn him - I'm going to hang up on you if you continue spewing this bullshit.)
