I'm a CBS viewer in Cincinnati, and heard about your plans for Dan Rather through USA Today. If it makes you feel any better, the CBS affiliate here put a poll up on its site asking if Rather should've retired sooner.
That was sarcasm, of course - though sadly, the part about the Cincinnati affiliate is true. I seriously doubt your contract with CBS allows you to pick and choose what you air, so the push-poll you conducted was obviously intended as a stunt. A rather disgusting one.
Regardless of the politics of your general manager or news editor, Dan Rather does not deserve this kind of treatment -- not only because today was his last broadcast, but because the guy has more years in journalism than probably most of your staff put together. Way to piss on his retirement party.
You deserve whatever whirlwind you reap from this -- which probably won't be much, given the apathy and stupidity of half the country. At most, I imagine you'll have learned not to at least not *appear* biased in the future. Sad.
