"We don't do Lincoln Day Dinners in South Carolina...."

http://www.knoxnews.com/kns/politics/article/0,1406,KNS_356_3598413,00.html

CULTURALLY INSENSITIVE RIGHT-WING QUOTE OF THE DAY: "We don't do Lincoln Day Dinners in South Carolina.…It's nothing personal, but it takes awhile to get over things." – Sen. Lindsey Graham, explaining that, in his opinion, South Carolina is still reeling from the Emancipation Proclamation. His thought process was probably news to at least 30 percent of the state's population, which is African-American.

"...still reeling from the Emancipation Proclamation." That is so funny! What a great choice of words!

2. Yes. The Party of Lincoln has long ago become the Party of Lee
Even more disgusting that Bushevik Propagandists are trading off what they were when Republicans were Northern Liberals and the Democrats were Bushevik "Conseravtives".

On the other hand, much bigger lies have EASILY been laundered into "conventional wisdom". Why not this one, too?

3. "Get over it" is, of course, a favourite of the right-wing lexicon,
but now we hear "it takes awhile to get over things." Another arrow for the quiver: "But Senator Lindsay Graham, R, of South Carolina, says it takes awhile to get over things!"

9. We have to get over the fact they never got over it.
Edited on Wed Mar-09-05 02:26 PM by Inland
We have to get over the fact that they are nostalgic for slavery and hate that their forefathers weren't allowed to dismember the nation for the sake of the institution. Get it now?

6. It's a standard Rethug meeting
The latest spin I've herd is now they are being called Lincoln-Reagan Day Dinners.

Dems have Jefferson-Jackson Days.

Go to your state's party website's and see the calendars.

7. Still longing for the good old days of happy darkies and magnolias.
Scarlett O'Hara and Ashley Wilkes making cow-eyes; Mammy cookin' the greens; dashing young bucks in Gray and Gold; and the noble troops defending States Rights against the money grubbin' Yankees. And, of course, the Stars and Bars waving proudly over all. Brings a tear to the eye of any True Southerner.

That it is the purist and smelliest bullshit matters not to those who inhale the heady fumes of sheer mythology and reconstruct the history to justify their crimes.

8. I had some customers in recent years
Who did not like to hear about West Virginia but refused to concede even that, saying I should refer to it as "western Virginia!!" What is interesting is that these people were not the ruling class of the Old South but the ones who got suckered in to defending the interests of their "betters." They were suckers THEN and they are pathetic suckers NOW!

10. Amazing how quickly A-As disappear when it's "we" Carolingians.
It's not just that descendants of slaves have forgiven Lincoln for freeing the slaves: its that Lindsay didn't even think of THEM when talking about how South Carolinians feel about Lincoln. They don't exist.

13. I remember reading about a woman who moved with her family
from the North to the South and when Lincoln's Birthday rolled around (this was before they created President's Day), she was making plans for her children being off school that day and then she found out that they didn't even celebrate Lincoln's Birthday down there! What a surprise!

It is ironic, as the one poster noted, that the ones who fought for the Confederates didn't own slaves or ever would be able to afford to.

The Red States people are still being used by the powers-that-be. Sigh....
