The people of Iraq don't want us there. Why no protest from the Iraqi government?

1. Because at the moment
there isn't one.

They can't agree on a leader...so everything has been delayed.

2. Because the foreign fighters and the insurgents

would kill them and take over the country. Even al-Sadr if he was PM would want US forces protecting him.

5. My nephew is over there and says that the people are totally
happy letting the Americans do everything from rebuilding their country to feeding them, etc. Hell, if someone did everything for me, I guess I wouldn't try to do it for myself either.

13. Good point.

must be why I'm so miserable.
On edit: was being sarcastic-can't really compare to Iraq or Palestine. Most people want to provide for their families, not allow a foreign government to dole out charity.

10. I've thought that for a while now. If we don't say "look, we will
train you to be soldiers, and protect your country, but you better start signing up now, because this offer is good for 6 months, or 1 year. If you don't have an army by them, I'm sorry, but we're out of here!

Why would they want to rish their lives if they don't have to.

6. So they held elections and they are not honoring the vote?
Edited on Mon Mar-07-05 11:40 PM by rjx
I thought the Shiite's won? I haven't kept up with their election BS as much as I should have been.

7. Possibly because the government is not formed yet. It is still in the
process.

Rebel Attacks Kill 16 as Iraqi Government Nears Formation

Rebels launched a series of attacks in Iraq today, killing 16 people and wounding dozens more as the country took its first major step toward forming a government whose most crucial task will be dealing with the insurgency.

Political factions jockey over Iraqi government

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Two members of Iraq's powerful Shiite Muslim alliance withdrew Friday and others threatened to follow as tempers flared over the delay in forming a new government a month after landmark elections.

As negotiations to form a new government continued, two minor figures from the United Iraqi Alliance announced their withdrawal with blistering criticism that the Shiite-dominated ticket -- the biggest winner in the Jan. 30 parliamentary elections -- focused too much on religion and wasn't working fast enough to install new leadership.
