Duh - Deborah Norville To Anchor From Home w/ Ankle Bracelet On
NEW YORK - Now HERE'S a good excuse for working at home. Deborah Norville will anchor Monday's program of "Inside Edition" from her home on Long Island, N.Y., to try to give viewers a taste of what Martha Stewart (news - web sites)'s home confinement is like.

Norville will be fitted with the same type of ankle bracelet that is being used to monitor Stewart's location now that she has been released from prison.

Over a 24-hour period, Norville will keep a record of everything she does and report on what the experience is like, the show said.

"Inside Edition," a syndicated newsmagazine, airs weeknights.

I don't know how she will do this with a straight face.

1. You have GOT to be kidding me.
This passes for news?

Wait, I really can't consider myself all that surprised. Not with today's media.

5. oh for cryin' out loud
How fake can you get. Why don't they just ask Martha what it is like or any number of REAL prisoners who are or who have been under house arrest?

I don't care about what somebody playing house thinks about it.

The conservation movement is a breeding ground of communists
and other subversives. We intend to clean them out,
even if it means rounding up every birdwatcher in the country.

repeat offender, not house arrest.

I'd rather she do it naked in a cage
Subject to arbitrary beatings and humiliation to give viewers a taste of what it's like to be confined at Guantanamo Bay.

The show usually runs features on Lindsay Lohan's tits and J-Lo's ass. This is a step up.

11. That's the stupidest thing I've heard.
She's going to spend 24 hours at home, document every boring minute of it, and then assail her viewers with the details?

Maybe Paula Zahn can do an expose of what it's like to have a dental check-up next week.

yet this dipshit "journalist" is going to stay put in her house for 24 hours as if that is something so out of the ordinary?

Holy Moley...my croatian grandmother spent weeks on end tethered to her kitchen and garden and tending to her six kids...and no one documented the fact that she didn't leave her house/yard...

15. This kinda deserves a second post--but I think a very public
campaign of ridicule has been earned by both the program and Ms. Norville. What say we get busy on it? Let's mock the media for its blatant ridiculousness.

17. Matt Lauer
Next week, Matt Lauer is going to sleep with a 12 year boy to give viewers a taste of what Michael Jackson is going through. Who asked these people to run these stories 24/7? It must be easier than learning the truth about things that really impact our real lives.

who? Deborah Norville, Inside Edition? Who really gives a shit!?

Hey DU'ers step up, how many here have had to wear one or had to suffer through a year or two of blowing into a machine to start your car and continue driving it as it beeped at you every 10 to 20 minutes. I confess, DWI, Collin Co., year, 1996.

I don't have a lot of sympathy left for Martha, I do beleive she got the royal shaft, where again is Kenny Lay?

Now if somebody would just bring the Gimp out of Deborah Norville's back room, I'd tune in for that.

28. Shouldn't she spend six months in jail first to get a real feeling
for the experience? Glad to see she's reporting on the absurd. Maybe a real journalist will try to get an interview with Sgrena about her ordeal and attempted assassination. Of course it would have to be for the BBC or CDC because it would never be aired on the Goebbels News Networks of America

32. Actually, she did spend five days in jail awhile back
and broadcast it all on Inside Edition. It was a very popular topic, so it looks like she's trying to replicate the experience. Get some ratings.

difference between what the journalist gets to experience and see and what the inmate gets to experience and see,

35. A journalist
Yeah, there's a huge difference. They supposedly tried to make it look like she wasn't being treated differently than the other inmates, but even just the presence of cameras is going to seriously affect the flow of things in there. It was a silly thing. It was in one of those really "tough on crime" jails with a sheriff that thinks he's God running it, and she ended up giving him a lot of publicity and boosting his popularity. The thing was, several years after it aired, the sheriff was brought down for misusing his funds and forced to resign. A bunch of his officers were convicted of dealing drugs in jail as well. If she was a true investigative journalist, she would have maybe found some of those things out. Instead, all she really did was give him a public relations bonanza.
