South Florida teacher wields knife to shush students
It was a dramatic -- and wrong-headed -- way to get a class to behave, the Broward School District contends.

District officials say a science teacher at Stoneman Douglas High in Parkland was irate at two girls who were talking in the class. So the teacher, Lynn Deering, took an 11-inch knife and plunged it into one of their desks.

Students in the anatomy class notified school administrators, and Deering, a veteran teacher, was removed from class pending an investigation.

''She was trying to get their attention,'' said Joe Melita, the school district's chief investigator

1. It's like something out of an episode of "Boston Public."

3. Well, she got their attention...
I'll give her points for that.

Think the school should have let her get away with it, the kids would probably listen better.

7. I don't think they can do that.
It's one thing to slam a ruler or other object on the desk to get their attention, but a huge-ass KNIFE? Not only is it kinda scary, there's always the chance that she could've slipped and really hurt someone. Extremely irresponsible and unprofessional behavior by this teacher.
