Weigh this, please. BUSH announces 60-day, 60-stop tour for Soc. Security
WEDNESDAY: "The Bush administration announced Wednesday a 60-day, 60-stop barnstorming tour to promote the president's plan for overhauling Social Security."

THURSDAY: "President Bush made rare mention of Osama bin Laden on Thursday, calling efforts to block the terrorist leader's hope of attacking America again "the greatest challenge of our day. Bin Laden's message is a telling reminder that al-Qaida still hopes to attack us on our own soil," he said.

===

Hello, how can one be prancing around the country on a SIXTY-DAY tour to build one's "legacy" and reward one's rich business donors if we are under such a dire terror cloud?

28. it's like a drug -- he craves the approval of handpicked people ...
Edited on Thu Mar-03-05 05:33 PM by Lisa
He can only get his "fix" from being with family and hangers-on (in Kennebunkport or Crawford), where outsiders are kept at a safe distance ... or from carefully-screened crowds at his campaign spectacles.

Meeting foreign dignitaries, or talking to Members of Congress, just can't provide the same feeling ... he knows that some of those people might dislike him or his policies (witness the number of Cabinet members who've left and have started criticizing him in public).

21. Reid should assign a Senator from each state he visits to respond
to his BS. We cannot just sit back and let him tell his lies and crapola without a response each and every day. We have to keep reminding the people that SS is not in a crisis and Bush's plan does nothing to save SS - it only will make matters worse. On top of all that, he wants to borrow $2 trillion more dollars. Someone needs to remind him that money does not grow on trees. But that's something he has never had to worry about.

30. MSNBC says Cheney, Treas Secy Snow, & other surrogates for * will
fill out the intense schedule over the next two months.

Watch as the WH 'press corpse' obediently reconstructs reality for most Americans over the next two months, to CHANGE poll numbers that disappoint Rove, Greenspan, and the other Social Security Terminators.

Millions of Americans watch so much Fox News that, after a couple of months of organized WH propaganda, they'll think the WH is echoing their own (the voters') opinions, rather than the other way round.

WH bookers right now are organizing events and pre-screening 'town hall' invitees so that Fox will be able to broadcast Stalin-style "prolonged, stormy applause" in response to WH speeches on 'Social Security re-design'.

Of course, as former House Rethug leader Dick Armey let slip recently, the WH goal is to PHASE OUT and TERMINATE Social Security, not to 'save' or 'reform' or 're-design' it.

From http://msnbc.msn.com/id/7078410/

"The president plans visits to New Jersey and Indiana on Friday to tout Social Security re-design.

Treasury Secretary John Snow said Wednesday the administration was launching a a 60-day, 60-stop blitz of the country to raise the profile of Bush's signature second-term domestic issue. He said he, the president, Vice President Dick Cheney and other administration officials will be in 29 states over the next two months."

'Americans are beginning to have a good understanding the system won't be there unless we act soon', he said."

OH, for the love of all that is holy.

Does this nimrod EVER stop?

Why can't be a big boy and function from inside the White House--like the rest of the grown-up presidents?

He can't hack it in the real world--leading, negotiating, compromising, creating, dialogging and governing with dignity, diplomacy and respect.

Instead, he'll spend 60 days hiding in a protective bubble. Again and again, he'll regurgitate his canned, seven-minute speech to hand-picked, head-nodding, never-questioning fanatics who've all signed loyalty oaths.

So he's off---on a shitstorming tour of America. Bullshitpalooza!

There goes our president, folks!

Don't it make ya proud?

Perhaps someone else will be successful. Will be be heading back to the White House every night? Or just some nights? Will the Pig Farm be HQ for a while?

How much are we paying for all these trips on Air Force 1?

And--if he'll actually be away from DC for days on end--what's he trying to avoid? (Aside from work--that's not new. Of course, an impending terror attack would not be new, either.)

61. Figures...secretive administration with secretive agendas...
but...he's trying to bolster weak GOP Reps.:

http://itemonline.com/articles/2005/03/04/ap/headlines/d88k2bcg0.txt

President Bush is trying to shore up the electoral prospects of two Republican lawmakers who are getting heat over his plan to overhaul Social Security.

Bush was to appear Friday at meetings with mostly hand-picked audiences in the districts of GOP Reps. Mike Ferguson of New Jersey and Chris Chocola of Indiana.

With both seats competitive, they are prime targets for Democrats interested in running in the midterm elections next year against Bush's plan for the partial privatization of Social Security.

Ferguson has not yet taken a position on Bush's proposal; Chocola said town meetings in his district last week left him willing to follow Bush's lead, even as he talked of the difficulty of the politics surrounding the issue.

Chocola was one of the main targets of ads shown last month by MoveOn.Org, in which Bush's Social Security plans were attacked as a steep benefit cut for retirees. The ads aired as well in the New York City media market, which includes Ferguson's northern New Jersey district.

65. Just for you
"With that thought, he traveled here Friday to appear at meetings with mostly hand-picked audiences in the districts of GOP Reps. Mike Ferguson of New Jersey and Chris Chocola of Indiana."

67. That is exactly what I find most infuriating
about these thugs. They won't even address half the country, and the media whores go along with it, pretending like the chimp is taking his case "to the people." My God, if he had to face a genuine cross-section of Americans of all stripes, he'd be exposed as a complete fraud in about two seconds.

68. Having said that, I wish we would develop some chutzpah
People should be protesting at every stop of the 60 cities. Look at the huge protests in Europe on that monkey's last trip there. Maybe we have just resigned ourselves. :(

70. Think of the massive protest that greeted the
chimp in NYC on the eve of his coronation last summer. Barely got mentioned in the press. The big protests in Europe likewise. A typical American watching Peter Jennings would think Europeans like the idiot.

I'd gladly come out to protest if the moron showed up here in my neck of the Southern CA woods, but chances are I'd be relegated to some ridiculous first amendment zone out of sight and the protest would go unmentioned on local tv - which has plenty of time for car chases and Michael jackson.

69. We're one terrorist attack away from privatized Social Security.
His numbers are in the toilet as well, so he may just be trying to drum them up with the bogeyman talk, but I'm cynical these days. I can't help but think those bin Laden comments may be a little innoculation against an attack. Y'know, then he can say, "I told you so!", and Privatize Social Security while the sheep are shaking in fear.

Pure politics.
