1. Maybe Carly Simon needs to do a new version of her song:
"Nobody deserves it better"!:eyes:

Especially after Dub had such COURAGE in his speech to tell all those reservists about their six months' extended TDYs in Iraq! {Sarcasm OFF}
x(

The opposite of an officer and a gentleman?
A moron and a coward!

B-)

2. I think you should change the title of this thread
....to something more dramatic. This is HUGE! I almost had a heart attack when they started reading the numbers.

Maybe you should rename to CNN breaking poll: Bush speech didn't work!!

3. I was hooting and hollering....
.....and happy dancing, and then my heart did a great big flip flop.

This was the best news yet. Bill Schneider said the people still support the troops, but they are TIRED OF THE GAME PLAYING!!!

Woooo hooooo!! The good old American people see through the speechifying!!

25. yup that $87 billion done it alright
In fact, the $165+ billion (if we include the extra $87 billion * wants) spent so far in Iraq alone would have paid for HEALTH INSURANCE FOR ALL AMERICANS FOR TWO ENTIRE YEARS! That sure woke a lot of people up. There are many out there, young, old, and inbetween in this quagmire! Now they awaken as they find they have no health insurance to pay that unexpected bill for a gallbladder that suddenly needed to be removed, etc.

Now, they are pissed. It takes what it takes ... :nuke:

6. Is this the full Gallup Poll, that last had Bush at 59% (on 8/25-26)?
As reported on http://www.pollingreport.com/BushJob.htm

I don't see it yet on USA Today's web page, or Gallup's, or CNN's.

Please post a link when you have it.

If so, this is very good! Gallup always has Bush at the high end.

I am always stunned that he EVER polls above 50%. It must be apathy or complacency, and people shrug "I dunno" and give him a most undeserved thumbsup.

13. Exactly the sentiment expressed by this LTE
My deepest despair, however, is with my fellow citizens. More than half of them apparently feel this president is doing a good job. Have any of those who support him stopped to truly consider what he has cost us and those who follow?

It should read "Dean lied again about everything - Bush poll numbers drop"

Granted, the story says nothing about Dean, but everybody else is claiming he lies all the time in threads, so why not?

14. gratuitous and I were just posting about this in LBN
Okay so here is how it was supposed to go down. July W has numbers in the 60's, Congress leaves town, and August is a slow news month where sharks or missing blonde girls are the only topics.

But wait something happened. The pressure and questions didn't stop, in fact it increased aided by the Dems running for office and the press actually staying on the "16 word" question. Oh yeah and the whole war thing blew up their faces and in a lot of our kids faces too. His numbers dropped in the "off season". W (Rove) was expecting to come back into DC and direct the discussion and TODAY was to be the crowning of the beginning of the second term but they stayed away from what could have been a hostile NYC and bin Laden pops back up to remind everyone that the unmentioned one is still out there.

Life is what happens when you are making other plans.
___

It's pretty apparent they don't have anything like a plan going for the economy or protecting our borders or defusing the causes of terrorism. The Twin Towers thing was pretty spectacular, but as Hollywood could have told them, you can only have that huge break-through once. I don't think this group of dolts has the intellectual firepower to come up with something new, so more death and destruction seems to be their only choice.
___

8. But today was supposed to be huge

There's less than no more money to give away (buy votes) even if YOU aren't getting it. Hell they haven't fully funded "No Child Left Behind" yet nor have the funded Homeland Security, so their whole money thing is out. In fact that might very well have to repeal some of the taxes, net it would still be lower but using their own rhetoric and logic they "raised taxes".

What's left? Other than getting Saddam or OBL which they were supposed to do in the first place.
___

9. Today WAS supposed to be huge

And you're right; during Chimpy's annual August AWOL, questions kept piling up instead of being dissipated and dispersed. Their plans for a triumphal entry into New York had to be scuttled because no one wanted see to their little rat faces while they mourned the dead (forget that "security" dodge -- they had to say something other than the truth).

24. I don't think he thinks about God at all
did you ever see him scrunch up his face during a public prayer, as if he were trying to see something behind his eyelids? The man clearly has no concept of prayer or faith.....people just don't squeeze their eyes shut tight and scrunch up their face if they are prayer for real.

20. You know what the most shocking thing of all is??
myyy god, this was predicted by all of us months ago. It was predictable that when the war went beyond 3 splendid days of entertainment, and when it took more than a month to make Iraq look like downtown NYC and the bills (particularly the bills) mounted they would turn on him and begin to mock him. This wasn't brain surgery. This is common sense. And I get so goddamn frustrated when all these high paying columnists and analysits and other assorted assholes just can't figure this out!! I swear to God there are a lot of people with 7 digit paychecks who don't have even basic common sense. They didn't know that Americans do shit for anyone else and care less about them because it is WHAT THE REPUKES TAUGHT THEM FOR 30 years.....what a surprise.

28. Gallup Poll posted on USAToday's web site! 52%! Woohoo!!
http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2003-09-11-poll-results_x.htm

I say "Woohoo!" because we all know that really means he's well below 50%.

Interestingly, 6 in 10 think he has no coherent plan for Iraq... and that's AFTER the big speech that was supposed to tell us what his plans for Iraq were! He should give speeches more often!

29. yep, that's the poll
Bush's slippage suggests that if the election were held today, he would have a tough fight. Among registered voters, he holds a slim 47%-43% lead over an unnamed Democrat. That's down from a more comfortable 51%-39% lead he held two weeks ago.

"Taking a fall was inevitable, but he is increasingly vulnerable now," says Jaime Regalado, a political scientist at California State University at Los Angeles.

On Iraq, where the news has been dominated by continued attacks on U.S. troops, 51% approve of Bush's management, down from 57% in late August and a high of 76% in mid-April.

Public satisfaction with the way things are going there has fallen below 50% for the first time to 47%.

37. Today my friend who works with elderly poor called to say
that there is some kind of block grant that funds senior centers for working poor who are caring for elderly relatives in their homes. When they go to work they drop the Alzheimer patients off at the senior centers so they won't burn the house down. The big boss of the place who is a huge repug supporter announced it, with a very sad face. My friend asked "Didn't you vote for Bush?" He said "Yes". She said "You have a part in this." My acquaintance who runs a very tiny country store, repuglican, who thinks she is wealthy and supports Bush is going to have it hit home. Their policies are starting to hit the little people hard, and then also some of the medium people. The misery is cascading down now.
