BOXER Alert! | Support the "Count Every Vote" Act!

just got this from Senator Boxer.............

Support the "Count Every Vote" Act!

Dear Jeff,

On February 18th, Senator Hillary Clinton and I introduced the "Count Every Vote Act" -- critical legislation that will bring overdue reform to our election system and restore the faith of all Americans in their most basic, fundamental right.

Every citizen of this country should be guaranteed that their vote matters, that their vote is counted, and that in the voting booth, their vote has as much weight as that of any CEO, any member of Congress, or any President. Our democracy is the centerpiece of who we are as a nation, and we must take action now to ensure that the American people have full confidence in our electoral system.

PAC For A Change

Today, I ask you to join the fight. Email your Members of Congress as part of my new e-advocacy campaign, and ask them to join Senator Clinton and me in the Senate, and Representative Stephanie Tubbs-Jones in the House, to co-sponsor the "Count Every Vote Act."

I hope all Members of Congress will join together in a bipartisan way to enact this critical legislation. But if the past is any indication, we still have a lot of work to do. That's why reaching out to your elected representatives is so critical -- especially when multiplied by hundreds of thousands of Americans speaking with the same voice.

With your help, we’ll fight for the kind of comprehensive election reform that our nation so desperately needs. Please email your Members of Congress now -- and then invite all of your friends, family, neighbors, and colleagues to join our cause!

5. Done
There is a link to print out the letter and mail it to your reps. This might be more effective than e-mail.

Does this legislation address electronic voting machines?

8. Yes, addresses electronic voting machines
Among other elements:

* Provide voter-verified paper ballots for every vote cast on electronic machines

* Ensure equal access to voting machines and election personnel in every community

* Restrict the political activities of state elections officials and voting machine manufacturers

14. thanks for the heads-up and the link.
as a floridian, this is especially important to me because i truly believe that our electoral votes were stolen, especially after the ceo of diebold promised to give dubya the win. that is why i voted absentee even though i thought my vote would probably end up in the trash.

bev harris tested the system here in florida and proved that it could be hacked.

19. Perhaps she did
but Bev Harris then sabotaged the chance for a recount to feed her own ego and paranoia.

Here is an exceprt of the problems Florida activists ran into with Bev:

As a former BBV volunteer I understand the frustration and even anger of other volunteers and members whose efforts to help and donate were heavily solicited, then ignored. For a few days I was designated by Bev as Volunteer Coordinator only to find myself cut off at the pass with all efforts to do what I was asked to. That began with the county contact list, since Bev mistakenly thought every state could be done quickly. I heard Bev clearly as I waited on the phone for confirmation that it was ok to use other sources or not. It was not ok with Bev, but since Bev's single source was inadequate we did the best we could with other sources anyway.

Organization became noticeably worse just prior to the General Election as membership tripled within a week. Complaints of ‘no response’ to email and numerous pleas to help littered BBV forums. After a few days of Bev saying she would respond (on the site, though it's gone now) and not seeing it happen, I created a few admin accounts for a few trusted members who could help cover responses so I could sort skills sets. This was necessary because moderator features did not work. I also emailed Bev every step of the way so she could remain informed, and at her own pace.

After posting research for BBV off and on for two years and working 18-20 hours a day at election time, I was finally allowed the opportunity 3 times that night during phone calls to be yelled at non-stop for matters unrelated to any BBV volunteer (that I'm aware of) except for a minute dwelling on the newly created unauthorized email address. (the reason why was apparently unimportant) Specifically, Bev repeatedly referred to DU as stealing BBV members and that was 'just not going to happen'. During that conversation, my pointing out that at least hundreds (based on the explosion of membership) of people were not being responded to and they were rightfully displeased about being misled by her claims to be leading, was somehow stretched by Bev to be the work of 'infiltrators' (she termed 'the usual suspects') at BBV and DU.

when the difference in populations between states is such that a vote in one state is ten times more powerful than the vote in another something must be done.
