Did Katie Couric ever say...
Did Katie Couric ever say,"Let's hope Saddam made it over the border into Syria?"

I've seen a few Freepers post this as fact, but I've done a bunch of Google searches, and can't find where she's said it. The only link I found to the statement directly led to a Newsmax.com article which (naturally) was removed from their site.

Did Newsmax.com just make up some garbage about Katie Couric to brand her and the media as 'stupid liberals'? I wouldn't be surprised, but then again, I was hoping there was more to the story. I was hoping to maybe hear that the Today show told them to remove the article or get sued, or something like that.

3. I don't know but my parents were trying to convince me...
..that Katie Couric and Matt Lauer can barely hold their liberal leanings in during their news reporting segments and interviews and that it was obvious that they disliked bush and republicans.

My parents aren't freepers either. They are liberals and were saying this as a compliment and a good thing. I still couldn't believe they thought that though.

4. I don't think they're all that political
I just think they're talking common sense. Then again, we only see in others what we want to see.

6. I don't know about that any more....
I think you may be right historically speaking but I think they, like most of the media have over the past few years been cowtowed into trying to not appear too liberal and as a result have had a tendency to be harsher on the Michael Moores and Kitty Kelly's and other people critical of this administration, and more deferential to anyone involved with or defending this administration.

8. Katie may have once harbored liberal leanings - her sister was a Dem
But I think she sold her soul for 65 mil - there's a little black phone on a table next to where they do interviews, I think that's where she gets her marching orders from.

9. The article on Newsmax is here
While speculating on Saddam's whereabouts in April, Couric asked NBC's Pentagon correspondent Jim Miklaszewski if he could "confirm reports was taken to Tikrit, and then Mosul, and then hopefully to Syria."

A "Today" show spokesman later told NewsMax that Couric "misspoke" but had no plans to publicly clarify her remark.

That fact that it is quotes means she said it. If it wasn't true, they would be libel. Newsmax is a right wing website site, but they have lawyers.

Also, she claims to have "misspoke" so it gives it a bit of credibility.

Bottom line is we all know Katie is against the war and she had a slip of the tongue, which of course means to a right winger she has committed treason for having a brain

10. Thanks for the link, it shows something too
Wow, Newsmax is a pretty crappy web site...

I loved this little piece they wrote here:

"Still, the early morning mega-star remained unconvinced that Saddam's capture had accomplished much, pressing Sanchez on whether the arrest "may actually incite various members of the insurgency" and "create an environment in which there is more violence against U.S. troops.""

Isn't funny how they try to tear Katie a new one for saying that the insurgency would be incited to greater levels of violence against U.S. troops, and that's EXACTLY what's happened?

She also said that the capture of Saddam was "more of a symbolic victory", which is true. Saddam wasn't commanding any forces. His capture was a symbolic blow because the insurgents didn't want to see him fall. His loss didn't cause them to lose anything but morale (and even that was temporary).

And as far as saying that he was taken here, there, and then hopefully to Syria didn't mean anything at all. They're looking for bias there. I think a possibly reason for that slip was that she felt Saddam was hopefully where we think he is, and hadn't slipped into the middle of nowhere, like Osama has done.

Freepers really know how to jump to conclusions, don't they?
