While I agree with those who feel that Limbaugh's comment was inexcusable and an indicative of one who would rather engate in ad hominem attack than debate the issues I also fail to see any difference in principal between his characterization of Ms. Clinton and the many derogative names for Mr. Bush used here every day.

Am I the only one here who can see that name-calling is in poor taste no matter which side engages in it?

I suppose that I will now have several posts telling me I'm a freeper disruptor and a few folks will hit the alert button seeking to have me banned. OK, if a desire for some level of civility brands me as a freeper, I'm content with that.

WE are a cadre of pissed off,underrepresented,well-read,did I say pissed off?,people who have NO opportunity to affect national policy, or to even reach the eyes & ears of enough people to actually make a difference.. We are more of a combination support group/wailing wall/activist organizing venue/data-sharing facillity. On the other hand, mr.limbaugh has MY airwaves at his disposal for HOURS and HOURS and HOURS every day, of every week, of every month, of every year. He uses those airwaves to do nothing other than to demonize and belittle democrats and liberals..

If there was parity, I would not mind one little bit, but his show and others like his are the "chosen shows" of our very own military, and are used as "background programming" (dare we say, propaganda?)..

If you drive a car, and want to listen to talk radio, you have virtually NO choice.. You WILL get rightwing spew during drive-time. The few liberal shows out there are often relegated to late night or internet only..

It's pervasive, invasive, and downright obnoxious. Propaganda WORKS, and that's all he and his cronies offer the public.. The crappola sponsors attest to the suggestion that they are not really "pulling their own wagon".. These shows, just as the rightwing hate-books, are undoubtedly "sponsored" by people who do NOT want their names known..

I'm afraid we will have to agree to disagree. I think good manners and civility are something that one can practice regardless of how large a crowd may be around at the time. If Mr. Limbaugh chooses to call Ms. Clinton a "witch" that is no more or less an immature act than someone here calling Mr. Bush "chimp". Granted, Mr. Limbaugh's childishness will reach a broader audience than a post on DU would but one's immaturity is not lessened by having a limited number of observers.

Rush has three hours daily to spread invective, all of it directed at the Democratic party, to millions of listeners, many of whom don't get any other viewpoints. He is a dangerous propagandist who is devoted to destroying our democracy.

DU is a friggin' discussion board! It is no different from your living room. If you never swear or call names at home, then you truly value civility for its own sake. Fair enough.

Venting rage "en famille" is altogether different from spewing it out on the nation's airwaves. For my own part, I rather like calling Limbaugh any of the following:
