GOP vs. AARP: Bring It On, I Say
Edited on Mon Feb-28-05 02:12 PM by Plaid Adder
So the administration wants to take down AARP, now that they're "in the way." I think that's beautiful. I cannot wait to see them try. What could be more fun than watching the GOP:

1) Viciously and deliberately smear our senior citizens who, let us remember, are "the greatest generation."

2) Attempt to portray a group of people whose average age is well above 60 as a bunch of fire-breathing anarchists bent on inaugurating an era of communal ownership, free love, and marjuana for all.

3) Devote enormous money and time to taking down one of the best-organized, best-funded political action groups out there--and one which, I would point out, has until now not been marked as a partisan organization.

If I were running the AARP, I would be rolling out an ad campaign right now titled "Welcome to Waterloo."

Good luck, you bastards,

The Plaid Adder

1. At long last
the GOP is picking on somebody "it's own size". AARP is well-funded and well-staffed enough to give the GOP a fair fight....which is absolutely the last thing the cowardly SOBs want.....the would much rather pick on poorly-organized, underfunded or grass-roots funded organizations with amateur staff people who aren't used to fighting back.

2. This is a risky fight for the GOP to pick
so let's make the best of it, and not get cocky. Remember, these people destroyed Kerry's Vietnam service, and that was as watertight an advantage as we had. Why did that happen? Quite frankly, because we thought it was such a ridiculous attack that we didn't bother combatting it until a month after it started. We mocked the idea of an attack, but we didn't actually fight it. Let's not make the same mistake here. If we play this right, we'll manage to turn our nation's senior citizenry against the GOP. If we play this wrong, then they'll turn to GOP puppets instead of the nonpartisan AARP. Let's not f*ck this up the way we f*cked up SBVT. Let's fight honestly, directly, and passionately. Play to hopes and fears as well as facts. Use the emotional attachment seniors have to the AARP before they ruin it. We have an advantage in this fight, but they have money, they have the press, and they have the willingness to lie. Victory is by no means certain.

3. Messing with the AARP is a bad tactic; they're the biggest lobby in DC.

4. Let em dig their own graves
Let them try.... and they will lose a great deal of the AARP Republican constituents in the process..... And how about underfunding the VA.. thats another BAD move. WE need to promise to protect senior citizens and veterans in the next campaign.

6. Absolutely. Let the GOP tell AARP to "bring it on"
You don't mess with the old folks. I swear, this administration's hubris is just mind-boggling.

8. Here we have
CARP <hee>, the Canadian Association of Retired Persons. And, man, can they ever. Carp I mean <hee again>. These people have money and time. And they vote. So I'm assuming that the AARP is probably in the same position. If the * admin wants to throw down with these folks, it's not going to be pretty.

9. I only hope that AAPR doesn't sell out - I still have a bad taste in my
mouth about the prescription drug thingie, I'm a little leery at this point.
